Repeated lock ups

Post by SimonN »

Game locks up seriously - no alt tab, no task manager - once rebooted machine. Has occurred after beating poland, invading denmark, beating france (vichy) playing german - dxdialog and consoleOut attached in zip.

XP SP2

I've found a bug in the logger, in fact game logs (ConsoleOut.txt) in this version are worthless, because the file is not cleared correctly, the file contains only messages from the beginning of first turn. I've already fixed that. The bug involved not releasing the log file handle, and this might've been responsible for spontaneous crashes or lock ups (I'm talking about lockup on main map, not after the naval battle which seems to be different issue).

Good stuff - the issue still occurs. Here is a zipped folder from the autosave of a locked game.

I was unable to replicate this problem from the saved game you sent but I experienced this once myself a while ago. This is very uncommon problem and difficult to track. One thing:  Pressing 'start button' (the one with windows icon) key on keyboard allowed me to bail out of the game and kill the process.

I hope this problem is gone after I fixed the log file handle issue. It is very hard to replicate so we'll just have to see if after the patch is released (should be very soon) people get this problem again.  For now - if this happens again - try to get out of the game with 'windows' key and then restart from last autosave.

It's not uncommon on my box! I have yet to play more than 20 turns without it happening. I'll try it again now and see if your sugestion on the windows key works. I have my doubts as alt tab usually doesn't, nor does ctrl alt del but I'll let you know the result. Otherwise it seems a good game; having written a few myself I can empathise with your attempts to replicate a problem.

Can you give your hardware and OS details? Any antivirus software running?
