aircraft question

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

aircraft question

Post by jcjordan »

Well I was watching a bit of "The Eagle has Landed" late last night before going to bed & was wondering what the a/c was that they used to drop Donald Sutherland character into England was. It looks similar to a ME108 or 208 but the nose has that postwar Nord look to it but found nothing that looks like it in searching as the Nord versions of the 108/208 are side by side or tricycle landing gear instead of tandem taildragger. Any ideas as I'm going crazy trying to figure it out [&:]

from what I see, the Nord was a reengined 108, shaky, but the 208 which was also copied had a tri landing gear set up and was a 4 seater ?

AFAIR the Me 208 was an improved Bf 108 with trycicle landing gear but no a four-seater (only two prototypes built). The four-seater was the postwar Nord 1002 Pingouin II, basically a stretched Bf 108.

I thought it might be that but I took a good long look at it in the movie, unless it's a heavily modded version of it. In the movie imagine the front of a Nord w/ the tail end of a ME109 w/ tandem sliding cockpit canopies. That's why I thought it might be the Nord versions on the Me108 or 208 but none of the model types I found seem to fit. God I'm going to go nuts over this Maybe I'll watch it again to see if I can see a tail number & try a search that way.

the statement I seen was the Nord was a copy of the 208

Nord 100x Pengouin = Bf 108
Nord 110x Noralpha = Me 208

Edit: It looks like the Nord 110x were four-seaters, I have no info about Me 208 seating capacity.

JcJ

it could be a plane that was modded to try and make it look more like the real thing, or a plane that later had a different engine replace what it had to start with

been too long since I seen that movie :)

I think I found out what it was - a Czech built CS-199. I branched out into thinking about postwar Spanish a/c since they were used alot in movies like BOB in the 60's & 70's. My sanity is now restored! [&o]

CS-199 = czech-built Bf 109 G-12 dual-seater with Jumo 211 engine. Rather rare bird, i hope it's still existing and not scrapped.

There's a handful around mostly in Euro museums but the list of one search I came upon was a few years old.

Totally OT, but probably not entirely worthy of a new thread:

Has anyone else seen/heard the rumours that the Panton brothers are looking at getting Lancaster NX611 back into the air?

Nope but would like to see something other than the G for George??? flying along w/ another B29/50. I'd like to really see the Beaufighter & the P61 that've been restoring at something like Oshkosh or the big one in Fla in the spring but I think the P61 maybe for display instead of flying.
