RHSEBO Test 11C vs Panzerjaeger: exploitation and Russian crisis
This is a new game after certain files were corrected. In it Panzerjaeger only moved CL Helena and USN carriers: he thinks NOT changing anything on the first turn is "better simulation of first day command paralysis." This is the benchmark case to which we can compare other tests in which the Allies adopt different initial strategies. We intend this to be a long game test.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11C vs Panzerjaeger
7 December (Hawaii) 8 December (Tokyo, Manila, etc)
The night turn began with Ro-41 hitting a mine at Manila - and is likely not to survive. She is too badly flooded to scuttle. She is making for Legaspi - to try to pump out the water - which while an enemy port we should capture tomorrow. It is probably not wise to sail into Manila - with all its mines.
The next night event was I-173 shelling, torpedoing and sinking AP Jagersfontein at PH. Later in the night she put a torpedo into AP President Johnson = fires, heavy damage.
USS Thresher detected the Kiddo Butai one hex NW of Oahu, and attacked and failed to hit Kaga. 8 IJN destroyers counterattacked - one dropped charges - but she evaded them.
I-165 put a torpedo into AK Fingel at PM. Ro-23 put a torpedo into AMC Kanimbla at Singapore = fires, heavy damage. I-178 put 2 torpedoes and 4 shells into AP Luzon at Cagayan - no doubt fatal damage.
The day turn began with 12 Ki-48s out of Canton causing 6 airbase related hits at HK - no planes lost.
Next 40 unescorted Ki-48s out of Kampong Soam hit Georgetown - met 2 Buffalos on CAP - and fought a strange air battle with one plane damaged on both sides. 1 Blenheim night fighter destroyed on the ground, 7 casualties, 1 gun lost, 4 other hits - the presence of CAP seems to have reduced the damage inflicted.
96 Ki-21s escorted by the 25 Zeros of the Yamada Headquarters Detachment raided Singapore. They met 9 Buffalos - and destroyed them all.
5 bombers were lost and 11 damaged. 8 aircraft destroyed on the ground. 18 50 kg bombs hit 11 ships, 5 were set on fire and 3 were heavily damaged. 41 other hits.
44 Nells out of Takao hit Cagayan, and destroyed 1 B-17 on the ground, 15 other hits. No aircraft lost. 16 Nells out of Cam Rahn immediately repeated the process, and got 2 more B-17s and 10 other hits.
39 Ki-48s & 18 Ki-21s escorted by 135 Zeros out of Takao raided Manila. They met 9 P-40s on CAP. 1 Ki-48, 3 Ki-21 and 1 Zero lost: 10 P-40s and 2 Catalinas destroyed, 30 bomb hits on 25 ships: 13 on fire, 1 heavy damage, 73 casualties, 1 gun lost, 1 vehicle lost, 25 other hits.
51 Bettys escorted by 45 Zeros - also out of Takao - raided Clark Field. 4 Bettys and 2 Zeros lost. 30 fighters and 4 B-17s destroyed. 17 casualties and 135 other hits - but the base was STILL combat effective. There were 19 Allied fighters of 4 types on CAP.

36 Vals and 69 Kates escorted by 13 Zeros made the morning raid on PH. 4 Vals and 14 Kates were lost. Only 4 P-40s on CAP.
94 aircraft destroyed - of which 90 were on the ground. 10 bombs and 5 torpedoes hit 4 battleships and CL Honolulu. 125 other hits.
All bombs hits on shps were 800 kg. All four BB were set on fire and West Virginia was heavily damaged. Then 10 Ki-51s caused
19 casualties to the same unit. Then 32 bombers of 2 types caused 38 casualties and 1 gun lost to the same unit.
24 Vals and 22 Kates - unescorted - went to PH for an anti ship strike and put 12 bombs into DD Litchfield - sinking her.
3 P-40s on CAP - and AAA - caused no losses for the Japanese. Then 24 Vals and 24 Kates - escorted by 70 Zeros - went back to PH -
shot down all 3 P-40s on CAP - and put a torpedo and 12 bombs into AV Wright.
18 vals put 10 bombs into AP President Johnson - at PH.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11C vs Panzerjaeger
End of the day attacks had I-165 at PM put 2 torpedoes into AK Fingel - causing fires and heavy damge - and evenutal sinking.
PG Wake and IMN Hai Wei managed to miss each other in a desultry surface action at Shanghai.
I-14 put 2 torpedoes and 2 shells into AK Halaikalea at Christmas Island - she sank shortly therafter.
2 CA and 2 "15 gun light" CL bombarded Rabaul. 119 casualties, 6 guns lost, 1 vehicle lost, 7 other hits. 4 CD shots fired in defense.
Lahaina managed to do better - getting off 52 shots against 9 of the many ships in range - hitting one = ML Ginyo Maru.
Japanese landings were unopposed at Tarawa, Johnston, Legaspi, Kavieng, Kona, Aparri, Guam, Hollandia, Cagayan, Stroeng Trang and Buin.
Wake's USMC defenders fired 358 shots in defense. They scored 18 hits on 4 ships, setting 2 on fire, 1 with heavy damage.
Rabaul fired 19 shots in defense, scoring one hit each on 2 ships.
Brunei fired 39 shots, scoring only one hit, but it set DM Hatsutaka on fire.
Ground assault achieved 19:1 at Wake, capturing the base and destroying 6 F-4F3s.
Ground assault forced 3 units to retreat from Sinyang, Central China. 707 Japanese to 288 Allied casualties.
Ground assault at HK achieved a surprising 1:1 odds - and reduced fortifications to 5. 656 Japanese, 14 Allied casualties.
Ground assault at Rabaul was completely ineffective - so was the defense - no casualties on either side.
The same thing happened at Brunei when Allies attacked landing troops.
Unopposed Tarawa fell to ground assault.
Unopposed Ye fell to airborne assault.
Ground assault achieved 27:1 odds at Johnston I and captured it - 1246 casualties and 6 guns lost for the Allies.
Airborne assault at Tavoy Burma failed to take the place. Nevertheless - the fortification level was reduced and the Allies had
8 casualties.

One enemy carrier force seems to be near French Frigate Shoals. I split KB - and half of it will attempt to cut off retreat to the NE by this carrier.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11C vs Panzerjaeger: battle surface
8 December (Hawaii) 9 December (Tokyo)
The second day involved vast numbers of surface battles - day and night - and one of the longest replays I have ever seen.
Panzerjaeger stayed in port on the first turn - but emerged on the second - by which time a number of forces were close enough that some contacts were inevitable.
The night turn began with CD units at Lahaina firing 22 shots at 4 ships - and hitting DE Kuri.
Other landings opposed by CD fire were at Rabaul and Brunei, but only the latter managed to hurt the
invaders: 46 shots at 4 ships, 4 hits on 3 ships, 1 set on fire.
Other landings occurred at Kavieng, Aparri, Legaspi, Kona, Cagayan, and Stroeng Trang
DD Blue and DD Helm detected, localized, attacked and hit (twice) I-172 near Molokai. Later in the night
I-172 put a torpedo into AO Sapulga, but got hit again when engaged by her 5 escorts. Still later in the
night she was detected but missed.
I-153 put 2 torpedoes into CL Marblehead. 5 DD counterattacked, and one of them scored a hit on the sub.
USS Guedgon was detected and attacked by 4 escorts at Lahaina, but not hit.
I-13 missed 3 APs near Canton Island.
I-9 put 2 torpedoes into AK Vitorlock at Rangoon. Later she repeated this vs
AK Federlock. During the day she put 2 more fish into Vitorlock -sinking her
shortly thereafter - and used up her torpedos - so she must go home to get more.
Badly damaged Ro-41 - trying to go home after hitting a mine the day before - was detected and attacked by DD
John D Ford at the entrance of Manila Bay - but not hit.
I-158 missed AK Panay at Cebu.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11C vs Panzerjaeger: battle surface
The first surface battle of the night pitted BB Yamato, BB Mutsu and BB Nagato (unescorted) against CL Boise near Cebu. In spite of superb leader ratings, Boise achieved tactical surprise and scored many hits on Mutsu and Nagato - setting both on fire - as well as one hit on Yamato - which apparently didn't notice (ops damage zero). But eventually secondary guns found her - and 11 hits set her on fire as well. The ships then broke off - for a moment. The Japanese reformed and immediately re-engaged - and achieved tactical surprise: Boise was sunk by 18 more shell hits - most of them 16.1 inch. [In this mod Yamato has twelve 16 inch guns - the same weapon as all other Japanese battleships use in this scenario. This means Yamato is far more deadly than in her 18 inch gun form. Many of the 27 designs for Yamato contemplated using this weapon.] The three BB then went on to sink 3 AKs in separate fights - and to shell the port - damaging 4 more ships in port with 9 hits (3 heavy damage) - 103 casualties - 16 other hits.
Two ancient RN DD - Scout and Thanet - raided Takao Formosa - where they encountered a cruiser destroyer group returning home.
CA Nachi and CA Ashigara and 6 DD put 23 rounds each into the DD - also one torpedo each - sinking both outright - while only CA Ashigara was hit (and not damaged) by return fire.
A rare Japanese PT boat unit engaged an AK at Miri - and both sides scored a single minor hit - and then fled.
CA Minneapolis led 6 DD (two of them old DMS) into Kona - to disrupt the landing force there. This force had a single DE, and a large auxiliary ML with 5.5 inch guns - 2 AP and 2 AK. DE Hokaze put one shell into a DD. AK Kano Maru took 6 hits and a torpedo - and naturally was badly damaged. AP Awata Maru took 1 hit. The forces then disengaged for a moment.
3 RN PT units (PT units have 3 boats in RHS) engaged 6 AP in the Formosa Strait - without effect.
4 PG and 1 DMS engaged PG Wake at Shanghai - putting 5 4.7 inch shells into her.
3 modern USN CL with 6 DD and 1 DMS raided Lanai - and cought ML Ginyo Maru alone - aborting her mission. She took 31 shell hits - but survived - and dished out 3 hit in return: 2 on CL Honolulu and 1 on DD Cassin.
4 cruisers and 6 DD bombarded Rabaul putting 2 shells into an AK in port and causing 61 casualties, 1 gun lost and 22 other hits. 2 of the cruisers were in 15 six inch gun Brooklyn type layout - the other 2 were 10 eight inch gun typical Japanese CA. [In this scenario the six inch gun ships were not converted to 8 inch turrets]

The day turn began also at Lahaina - where 12 CD shots resulted in 2 hits on AK Kanto Maru.
Unopposed landings occurred at Aparri, Legaspi, Cagayan and Kavieng (but NOT at Kona - which ships had aborted their landings).
Strangely others were not opposed at Rabaul and Brunei.
I-23 missed 2 destroyers near Hawaii.
I-153 missed a Dutch ML in the NEI. So did Ro-28.
USN S-29 missed an AK near Legaspi. 1 ASW armed CL and 6 DD attacked her - scoring one hit.
I-158 put four fish into AK Norse Carrier at Cebu - sinking her shortly thereafter.
I-165 missed CL Adelaide at PM.
Ro-24 sank AK Kiangsu at Singapore with 2 torpedoes and 2 shells.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11C vs Panzerjaeger: battle surface
26 Ki-48s out of Kampong Soam (escorted by 2 Zeros) raided Alor Star: no CAP: 73 casualties, 2 guns lost, 1 vehicle lost, 15 other hits.
11 Ki-48s escorted by 12 Zeros raided Georgetown - CAP = 5 Buffalos: 5 Buffalos shot down - but no other damage or losses.
49 Nells and 27 Bettys raided Clark: No CAP - 9 aircraft destroyed on the ground - 13 casualties - 1 vehicle lost - 81 other hits.
A JAAF attack on the 50th Guerilla Regiment was ineffective.
3 JAAF attacks on the Hopei Militia Regiment caused 13, 0 and 26 casualties, respectively.
A JAAF attack on the Hong Kong Fortress cost 1 Ki-27 destroyed for no damage done.
The AAA is still effective at HK.
A JNAF attack out of Truk on the Lark Force Battalion at Rabaul caused 13 casualties and 1 gun lost.
A JNAF attack on the Guam Insular Force caused 15 casualties and 2 guns lost.
25 Nells out of Cam Rahn Bay caused 30 casualties to the Brunei Fortress unit.
3 B-17s missed and AV and a DD at Cagayan. 6 Petes on CAP didn't stop them but probably reduced the hit chances.
Immediately after 3 Hudsons missed the same AV at the same place.
2 B-10s missed an AP at Brunei. Immediately after 3 Hudsons missed an AK at the same place.
13 Kates and 8 Vals (escorted by 28 Zeros) attacked USS California east of the Big Island of Hawaii. They scored 7 bomb hits
and 2 torpedo hits, causing fires and heavy damage. In the same area 6 Kates put a torpedo into DM Pruitt, but missed another DM.
30 Ki-47 (Army Kates) and 7 Ki-51s put 13 small bombs into PG Cicala near Shanghai. 21 more Ki-51s came in on her, but could not find her any more (= she was sunk).
12 Kates put a torpedo into AS Canopus at San Jose [Mindoro] but missed an AK in company with her.
4 Kates missed AK Hai Lea at Manila. Immediately thereafter 13 more Kates went into Manila and put 1 bomb each into two PGs, but missed AP President Johnston entirely. Then 18 Nells out of Formosa put a total of five 250 kg bombs into 3 PG at the same place.
2 Jakes missed an AK at Miri. Later in the day, they repeated this. They flew off ships landing at Brunei.
8 Ju-88s and 12 Nells put 2 torpedoes and 7 bombs into AK Federlock at Rangoon.
30 Kates raided HK and descroyed one transport on the ground and caused 24 other hits. 1 Kate damaged. Immediately thereafter this entire battle was recreated EXACTLY - to the last detail!!!
28 Zeros swept Singapore but met no CAP and there were no losses on either side.
3 Hudsons missed CL Kiso at Cagayan. CAP = 6 Petes.
2 B-10s missed an AP at Brunei. CAP = 7 Petes.
3 B-17s missed CLAA Ioshima at sea East of Luzon.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11C vs Panzerjaeger: battle surface
Four divisions of PT boats sailed into Lahaina by day, but were tactically surprised, and one unit was sunk by the Main Body. In spite of that, they managed to torpedo CL Jintsu, which has heavy damage. Later in the day there was a rematch - and another division of PT boats was lost. Although Matrix tried to fix the problem several times in UV days - and GG said it would be fixed - PT boat units (which are too shallow) took a torpedo hit in this battle.
Then PG Sonoma sailed into Kona, discovered the five ship landing Task Unit there, and was engaged by it - being hit 23 times before withdrawing with heavy damage. This seemingly failed operation ALSO resulted in abandoning of landing operations, and the Japanese Task Unit fled one hex - only to run into CL USS Helena and 2 DD. These inflicted 28 hits on DE Hokaze, 9 hits on ML Syoka Maru and 6 more hits on 2 APs. Hokaze and Syoka Maru dished out a bit in return, hittign all three ships with a total of 8 shells, and setting both DD on fire. Hokaze and one AP are heavily damaged while Syoka Maru is on fire.
2 CA, two 15 gun CL, and 6 DD bombarded Rabaul. One AK in port was hit and set on fire. 59 casualties, 1 gun lost, 1 vehicle lost, 18 other hits.
I-23 torpedoed AO Sapulga at sea near Hawaii.
13000 men attacked the coast defense unit on Lahaina, achieved 413:1 odds, and captured the hex. The defenders retreated to Molokai.
Almost 8000 men attacked the air base force at Cagayan, achieved 61:1 odds, and captured the hex. 6 B-17s were destroyed on the ground.
The Japanese SNLF abandoned at Kona nevertheless managed to capture the undefended port. It has no supplies.
4500 men (exactly) of the Nanyo Detachment captured Rabaul in a shock attack. It is unusual for Rabaul to fall on the first attack - but air and naval bombardment (and luck) all contributed. 1462 Allied casualties when the static defense unit surrendered. Lark Force Battalion retreated.
Almost 43000 men attacked Hong Kong and achieved 2:1 odds - and reduced fortifications to 4. It is also unusual to obtain multiple odds on the second day - or to reduce fortifications to 4 on the second assault. Hong Kong may fall on the third assault - which is likely in 2 more days - and that is no where near history's Christmas Day. The casualty radio is about even - another indicator HK is going to lose soon. The supply sink - which is inside the static Hong Kong unit and not depleted in morale or leadership like dedicated supply sinks are - is not causing a long defense (which once was a problem).
Almost 11000 men took Aparri from its small battalion of defenders.
Kavieng was taken from K Force - which is a fraction of the Australian 2nd Independent Company - by a combined force of 3 small units totaling over 4000 men.
Naval Landing Parties captured Legaspi, Buin, Hollandia, and Viet Tri (Tonkin, Indochina).
Allied bombardment at Brunei was ineffective.
A small party from the First Raiding Regiment of the First Raiding Brigade captured Tavoy, Burma - forcing its defending air support unit to retreat. 5 Japanese casualties and 1 gun lost of the 451 man landing force.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11C vs Panzerjaeger: aftermath
9 December (Hawaii) 10 December (Tokyo)
The night turn began with Ro-34 putting a torpedo into DD John D Ford as it tried to esacpe South from Manila Bay. This is not the last we will hear of this ship.
Tit for tat, USS Triton torpedoed AP Konron Maru SE of Wake Island. I had to scuttle her to save victory points - something I don't like to do. The only thing I can say for her is she had completed her first (and now only) wartime mission.
Awata Maru - withdrawing in damaged condition from the actions with cruisers the night before off Kona - was intercepted by USS Pennsylvania - wholly undamaged - in company with former battleship Utah (now an AA training ship - probably with most batteries disabled) - equally undamaged CA New Orleans and CL St Louis and 5 DD - for a remarkably one sided suface action - being sunk without ever scoring a hit on her tormenters. Presumably there was a lot of anger over the PH attack - and this was payback: everyone got in on the 36 hits.
CL Adelaide detected I-165 at PM - but she submerged and was immune to being attacked. Later during the night I-165 tried to torpedo Adelaide, but missed - again.
Ro-31 shelled and torpedoed (and sank) AK Kalgan near Singapore.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11C vs Panzerjaeger: aftermath
The day turn opened with an air strike on Rangoon by 15 Sallys escorted by 42 JAAF fighters of 2 types. They met 8 Buffalos on CAP - shot down 4 before the rest bugged out - and scored 17 hits. Next, 12 Ju-88s and 12 Nells came in escorted by 12 Zeros - but there was no CAP this time - and 13 more hits were scored. These hit rates are not impressive.
Then 20 Allied bombers of 2 types - out of Alor Star - escorted by 8 fighters of 2 types - hit Singora. Due to an oversight - there was no land based CAP - it was all out escorting raids - so only 4 Petes resisted in the air. Instead of going for ships - they trageted the air base - and scored 28 casualties, 1 gun lost, 1 vehicle lost, and 12 hits - not very impressive given the upwards of 200,000 men and other targets in the hex. Then 6 Hudsons came in from Georgetown - met the same 4 Petes - ignored them - and scored a single hit.
At the same time, 25 Ki-51s from Singora hit Alor Star - meeting no CAP because HIS fighters were also on escort duty. 4 were lost (dive bombers are opposed by everything - even MMG - which abound in RHS) - 9 casualties, 1 vehicle lost, 12 other hits. Immediately afterward, 48 Ki-48s and a dozen Zeros (out of Cambodia) came in on the same target - also met no CAP - destroyed a Blenheim on the ground - 32 casualties, 1 gun lost, 1 vehicle lost, 48 other hits.
30 Zeros of the Yamada DHD swept Singapore. They met 18 Buffalos on CAP - and shot down 6 before the rest gave up trying to fight. This came out of Soc Trang - the only base in range. 20 Ki-51s out of Canton caused 15 casualties and 1 gun lost at HK. This was the secondary mission - the force was hoping to spot one of the enemy carriers. A follow up strike on the same force revealed the 2 AKs "could not be found".
9 Ki-51s and 30 Ki-43 Is out of Bangkok attacked the RAF No 2 Forward Air Station remnant in the Jungle just West of the City. They were ineffective (reminds me of attacking Viet Cong in the jungle in Viet Nam).
44 Zeros tried the same trick at Manila - but met no CAP - ALL his fighters were assigned naval strike missions - so no air battle at all.
A JAAF strike on the 50th Guerilla Regiment caused 3 casualties and 1 gun lost. Another on the 52nd Guerilla Regiment
caused 30 casualties and 1 gun lost. Two more on the Hopei Militia Regiment caused 9 and 28 casualties respectively.
5 Swordfish then had a go at Singora - but aimed for ships. They also ignored the Petes on CAP - and went home vs CA Kako and DD Shirakumo - but they missed. 7 Blenheims followed up - and missed DD Yunagi at the same place. Near the same place - but at sea in the Gulf of Siam - 3 more Blenheims missed AK Eisho.
The fast wing of the KB (Shokaku, Zuikaku and Hiryu) launched 24 Vals, 24 Kates and 18 Zeros vs a transport group well NE of Hawaii. They
scored 9 torpedo and 10 bomb hits on 3 ships - missing AVD Avocet altogehter - but sinking AO Neosho and 2 AKs. The other wing of the KB was at Lahaina - and although there were many land and carrier based planes there - all the Hawaiian islands were socked in - so there were no strikes (although there was search and ASW air). Later 24 Kates put 2 fish into DM Pruitt - sinking her so she could not be found any more. Then 21 Kates put 4 fish into AK Hoegh Merchant, also sinking her outright.
2 Divisions of RN PT boats - after striking at Bako the previous day - continued up the China coast - no one knows why? These were found and straffed by Claudes out of Formosa - but not hit.
SW of Formosa - West of Luzon - in the South China Sea - gunboats Tutulia and Moth were hit by a major strike out of Bako and Takao.
Moth took 3 torpedoes, 5 bombs and 4 shell hits from strafers - and of course was sunk. Tutulia "only" took 8 shell hits - some of these 7.7 mm - and one bomb - and survived - for a moment.
A similar strike on 3 PG in the same area put a torpedo into 2 of them - Luzon and Asheville - while Oahu was missed entirely.
A tiny strike by 3 Ki-48s put a bomb into AK Gertrude Kellog - in the same general area.
Note: I had focused on counter naval strikes to address the fact he was being aggressive with gunboats and PT boats - and also in hopes of preventing transports from escaping to do service in other areas. This naturally came at the expense of counter air strikes vs land bases.
5 Ki-48s out of the new base at Legaspi put a bomb into AP President Madison near San Jose (Mindoro) - so named because there is another San Jose nearby.
Then 20 Allied bombers of 2 types - out of Alor Star - escorted by 8 fighters of 2 types - hit Singora. Due to an oversight - there was no land based CAP - it was all out escorting raids - so only 4 Petes resisted in the air. 19 Kates from the CVE force near Legaspi then put no less than 16 250 kg bombs into TK Ebonol - which didn't sink her because she is a tanker (which in RHS means lots of durability) - but she surely is doomed to burn out or flood out.

scored 9 torpedo and 10 bomb hits on 3 ships - missing AVD Avocet altogehter - but sinking AO Neosho and 2 AKs.
19 Kates from the CVE force near Legaspi then put no less than 16 250 kg bombs into TK Ebonol - which didn't sink her because she is a tanker (which in RHS means lots of durability) - but she surely is doomed to burn out or flood out.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11C vs Panzerjaeger: aftermath
Ten Blenheims came in with two Swordfish - "penetrated" (if that is the word) the 4 Petes on CAP at Singora - and missed 3 ships. One Swordfish was shot down. CL Yubari - in CLAA form - did most of the damage. She has replaced her 5.5 inch SP guns with 5 inch DP guns of the sort used as secondaries on cruisers and battleships - it is too soon in the war for any proper medium AAA and 1941 ideas about light AAA were minimal - but this armament prooved potent.
No less than 30 P-40s out of Manila then struck at ships at Aparri. Here there was mixed CAP including 1 Pete, 4 Claudes and 5 Me-109s - not sure how that happened??? Anyway - they shot down 2 P-40s - and the remainder all missed AK Nasusan Maru and CL Tenryu in CLAA form.
This ship was not effective however - causing neither damage nor loss to the attackers - who seem to have missed mainly because they are not skilled at this sort of attack (SOP for Army pilots in 1941).
The fast wing of KB then sent 16 Vals and 66 Kates at what may have been an ASW group of four ships NE of Hawaii. The Vals all missed - but 11 torpedoes were put into the ships - PG Ontario and DMS Wasmith beign sunk. Then 24 more Vals put 18 bombs into 2 AKs in the same area. One is surely lost. Next 26 Vals put 5 bombs each into 2 DM in the very same hex - but a different TF.
15 Bettys on a very long range strike managed to put another torpedo into DD John D Ford - already suffering from a submarine torpedo hit the night before. Presumably she is in trouble. AP Basilan was missed in the same attack.
A follow up strike on PG Moth failed to find her - no doubt because she was sunk.

Ro-33 missed AK Hai Lea with torpedos - but got two 3 inch hits on AK Hai Lea near Olongapo (the mouth of Manila Bay).
Ro-34 did better - putting 2 fish into PG Napa - which I think sank later.
Landing craft landed troops on River Port Raheng, Thailand. They could get there faster than the longer overland route - and this base needs to be built up to a Level 3 port - so supply becomes more automatic (down the Thai river system) - if we also build up the isolated port SW of it.
That port - called Stroeng Trang - was landed on yesterday - and captured by ground assault today. We sent engineers today to start building the ports up - also by river vessels - Stroeng Trang being isolated from the land rail net.
2 Japanese divisions attacked 2 Field Armies on the rail line West from Shanghai. Unusually - they failed to push them back - 873 to 201 casualties - and both divisions were demoralized. We will rest, reinforce, and try again in two days.

42 000 Japanese engaged just under 1/3 that number of Allies at Hong Kong. They achieved 2:1 odds - but the fortified position fell. Fortifications reduced to 3 - and this is about the best that can be expected - although rarely HK falls sooner. It probably will fall tomorrow - the 4th day - in spite of the presence of a medium sized (and organic - not imatiated) supply sink in the garrison. Supply sinks of this size are not a problem - even without demoralizing them. IRL HK fell on Christmas Day ("black Chrismas" they still call it there) - and it never holds out that long in the game - in spite of a beefed up garrison with all its auxiliaries - and the Canadians.
A ground assault on the 52nd Guerilla Regiment in East China forced it to retreat - isolating the Hopei Militia Regiment. Then a ground assault on that unit - weakened by many air strikes for three days - surrendered: 1846 casualties and 10 guns lost.
We continue to fly in airborne troops and the airborne air base force to Tavoy, Burma. Other air support is flying into Pisanoluke Thailand - too far North to be reached yet by rail reinforcements. We are setting the stage for early operations into Burma.
We had a problem with the drive on Alor Star. Landing troops messed up the advancing division - so it reset to zero movement. The attack on Kota Bahru will come in two days - the division going that longer distance from Singora was not similarly disrupted - and is most of the way there.
We will try to trap the ships fleeing NE from Hawaii between a hammer and an anvil - to arms of KB - plus land based air on Lahaina.
We will let Pennsylvania group escape to the SE - catching it would not be worth the engine damage nor the fuel required - and we must secure the lower islands.

RE: RHSEBO Test 11C vs Panzerjaeger: exploitation
10 December (Hawaii) 11 December (Tokyo/Manila)
The night turn began with Ro-33 sinking PG Oahu at the entrance to Manila Bay. 3 torpedo hits insured she must sink - and she did.
7 IJN River Gunboats engaged Wake at Shanghai - scoring one hit. She seemed not to sink - but there was so much flooding and fires from previous air and surface engagements - eventually she did. Wake was in horrible condition to start with - and was left at Shanghai only to provide radio service for the US Consulate there. She never escapes.
Ro-34 torpedoed AO Trinity SW of Luzon
Unknown assailants attacked I-23 (at Canton or some other Central Pacific Island) - but failed to localize and drop on her.
Dutch KXVII - in the Gulf of Siam - torpedoed and shelled AP Ryugi Maru - which I was forced to scuttle later due to no speed and no hope of making Bangkok for repairs. I have spotted her since day one and evaded contact with most convoys - but this one entered her hex - and she saw them - even at night.
CL Adelaide spotted I-12 at PM - but could not engage her.
