Run-time error 91 & 429 (possible fix)

Post by diamok »

I was having these issues with both versions (pre 2.0, 2.0 and 2.2) of MF, I am running XP. I read a number of threads here about both issues, all of which mentioned your standard fair of check directx and vid driver versions, which I had already gone over.

Threads also talked about uninstalling, removing all folders for MF then reinstalling, which I had done a number of times as well.

I tried every suggestion I found on these forums (including some not related to MF) but still was getting the 91 error (pre-2.0 MF) and the 429 error with 2.0 and beyond version.

I decided to go hunting and a couple hours later, I determined it was an issue with Visual Basic. How did I figure this out you may ask? Luck actually, it was either VB or ActiveX, though I still think my ActiveX is all screwed up too.

But!!!

Going with the VB theory, I downloaded Windows Script 5.6, installed and wham-o, I am now playing MF without a hitch.

This may or may not be a solution for others in the run-time error situation, but it worked for me, it could for you.

Windows Script 5.6 Download Site
Non Microsoft Windows Script 5.6 Download Site

Thank you for posting this.

The scripting dll you're referencing should be part of Windows. It's installed as part of the WindowsXP installation. That said it can happen that uninstalling another application can remove it (I've seen poorly done uninstallers remove critical windows components...)

Thanks again, this may help a lot of people.
