about upgrade costs, need explanation.

Post by alaric318 »

greetings, well, i finish my first game as axis against allies ai, do not know what difficult will be it and what problem/s will arise, but ai opponent in russia instead of making a main frontline defend cities with troops giving more open choices to concentric attack, so, a main front tactic will left less open holes to concentric attacks.

and now for the main trying on this post, one armored corps level 1 cost 138 points to upgrade to level 2, you gain one extra strenght point that can be modified by nearby commanders and be 2 or 3 points instead of 1, i want to know if level 2 troops have some extra (have not read the manual and not found it on game), some extra bonus to lesser level troops, the point is that you can build a level 1 tank group/corps at 240, at strenght 5, but 138x2 only (as far as i know) gives only two strenght point increases, at first view is much better to have more low level troops than upgrade to higher levels, the reason on this post is to know about it, as i am planning about reduce the upgrade costs to maybe 1/2 of default cost, if i failed to know some about it this change can indeed unbalance the game, any and all advice greatly appreciated before hand,

with best regards,

An excerpt from the manual:

Upgrading units is slightly ineffective PP-wise. For example, a Level 5 Armored Division (with a base Strength of 6) will cost you several percent more PPs than three Level 1 Armored Divisions, which count for the same base Strength. However, by upgrading to higher Levels, you benefit from concentrating large Strength in smaller amount of units, which allows you to punch holes in enemy lines (and then to flank them with lower-Level units), or more easily conquer important Cities defended by strong enemy units.

thanks for the great and fast repply, just is what i was wanting to know, well, i must say that with more units you increase the overall number, this goes indeed to allow more concentric attacks, but in my game i upgrade one panzer corps and not regret it, given there are few upgraded units, it makes great difference overall, in much battles,

thanks again and best regards, i am enjoying the game,
