Couple of newcomer questions.

Post by CountBrass »

OK I've bought witp and even downloaded it (although I'm on holiday and only have my Mac with me so I'll to wait until I get home to play).

It went against my instincts to buy it as I own two other GG games and they are probably the worsts strategy games I've ever bought! But the enthusiasm here won me over...

Anyway. Obviously I can't get the manual (have to run a Windows .exe to extract it!) so I thought I'd download the composite by Skripta(?) I certainly hope that isn't an indication of what the real manual looks like: it's basically just a bunch of quick reference and cheat-notes! The various strategy guides, faqs etc have whetted my appetite but none really cover what I was looking for.

So my question: do the tutorial scenarios actually work as tutorials (i.e. turn one: "do X, Y and Z because of these reasons..." or are they not tutorials at all but rather just simplified scenarios useful for beginners? If it's not a real tutorial is there a monkey-see-monkey-do tutorial I can download from somewhere (ideally with an explanation as to why I'm doing it?)

Is the manual actually any good?

And finally, what on earth does "KB" mean? Ok I've worked out it refers to the main IJN carrier fleet but it's not a term I've ever come across before (I'm no expert on the Pacific war: not had much interest in it outside of Burma where my Grandfather was an RE colonel busily blowing up all the oil refineries!).

Rambling done :-)

The manual provides ok info but is vague as to some cause and effect, I tend to use it in order to look up specific questions I have as opposed to reading it through. The tutorial mostly lets you just get used to a small scale scenario. KB or Kido Butai is the Japanese name for their mobile striking force. Good luck[:)].

Thank you.

Is their a fan-made, readable, manual and/or a monkey-see-monkey-do walkthrough anywhere?

There is some stuff on spooky's site (the docs are a bit out-of date) ... in the Newbie Guide section ... otherwise the "must read threads" are a must [;)] ... but as with all games, the only real way is to jump in and play. The manual will supplement this, reading the must read threads will give you good direction, the AAR, incredible insight into all things ... and then the experts (I'm not one) will patiently answer all you questions for the millionth time ... Gotta love the forum users on this site.

Good Luck!
[edit] Actually noticed you probably don't need Spooky's as it is all in the "Must Read threads" ...

Thank you: I've been working my way through the "must read" thread but I hadn't seen Spooky's piece.
