This game seems very promising. [:)]

Just one question: Can you play it using 1680 x 1050 resolution? I haven't found any information about this. If this resolution can't be used, which ones can?

To be more precise: Native resolution is 1024x768, but you can play it in any resolution. Higher resolutions will simply adjust the screen as if it was 1024x768. I tried running the game on the wide screen (1680 x 1050) and it worked, it only was a bit horizontally stretched. You can also play in windowed mode, which displays the native 1024x768.

Comrade,
I'm enjoying the game, but could you give me some insight as to why the decision was made not to support higher resolutions. This has been a sad issue on a number of recent games. It is detrimental to the gaming experience, in that so much more map could be made available.

There are two answers. First is the 'historical' reason. Work on this game started long ago, in the days when 15' monitors were still standard and 1024x786 was in most cases highest possible resolution. These were also times where a lot of people had CRT monitors, which have one big advantage over LCD: changing resolution did not affect the image quality. And this is the other reason why most recent wargames face this problem: usually LCD monitor has ONE native resolution, in which everything looks sharp and nice. Changing resolution to non-native makes the display bit less clear. The wouldn't be a problem if everyone had 17' LCD with 1280 X 1024 native resolution. Unfortunately theres a wide range of monitors, each supporting different resolution: 1280 X 800, 1280 X 1024, widescreens: 1650 X 1024, 1600 X 1024 and so on...

In 3D scene directX can take care of scaling the scene to other resolutions. However if you create game where every icon, unit counter, menu element, panels, frames, etc. is a hand-drawn 2D image (it's the case for most classical wargames), you would have to draw each element for each resolution possible and also code the game to make positioning of GUI elements like buttons, lists etc. depend on resolution. There'd been too much work with this, so usually the game is designed to support only one native resolution.

Sad to hear this, but acceptable. One has to play in windowed mode. I downloaded the game earlier today and apart from this issue and the rather empty look of the map, I'm very positive this far. [:)]
