Battle of the Atlantic

Post by mavraamides »

Hi all, just bought the game and am enjoying it so far.

One part I don't get:

I have 7 sub units in the North Atlantic setup as raiders.

How do I know what impact (if any) I'm having on the convoys?
I never seem to get a message, is there someplace I need to look?

Also, is it me or are subs too easy to sink?

Naval needs work all ships only have 3 attributes: strength, hits, surprise.  There is no distinction between subs and other units.

My Raiders that were setup as subs in the Atlantic, all got sunk by the Allies. The very next turn after putting each of them there, bang! Now I put all of my subs elsewhere and NOT as Raiders. Yes they are too easy to sink. Worthless in my opinion. [&:] [:@]

Worthless for another reason as well, there is no convoys to intercept.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

I didn't like the naval system in CEAW either...very abstract and made it a pita to buy subs...so expensive and very, very easy to sink. Easier than I would've thought (especially early in the war!). I mean, surrounded as soon as you struck by 3 or 4 allied ships (disconcerting to see a carrier there!) and sunk before you got a chance to escape.

Sounds like this is the same. Pity.

You're right, currently there's no report screen to show the damage done by your raiders. Only your victims can see their losses on convoy executions creen.

1.21 will fix this problem by introducing proper reporting. You'll be able to review all types of reports (convoys, production, research, combat, etc.) from last turn, plus, we'll add raiders summary report which will show the effectivity of your subs.

On the flip side of the coin, I would like to see some modification of the economic model to make convoying a necessity rather than an easy convenience. The North Atlantic convoys were a vital link from England to survival. The battle of the North Atlantic requires more detailed treatment, I think, with the end goal of making it more crucial to the progress of the war.

As a side note, English troop convoys to Egypt, both around the Horn and through the Mediterranean, should be more of a critical concern than they presently are. It is too easy now to move troops around without interference from the enemy, I think...

So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.

There are Lend-Lease convoys in 1.20, each turn a total 100 PP worth convoys are passing through North Atlantic from USA to UK and Russia. This should make the control of the sea zone more important to all sides.

Perhaps it's bit too easy, but wait for that encounter when one single shot from italian cruiser sinks down your transport with brand new lev 3 armoured corps, few hundred PPs lost [;)]

That just happened to me! My admiral fell asleep at the helm and let a tiny two ship Italian fleet sink my troop transport escorted by seven ships.

I hope air/naval interaction is added in a future patch.
