7.2.2.6 Air HQs

Air HQ’s will help air operations within their Operational Radius. Level bombers not located within
an air HQ’s Command Radius will have their number of planes flying reduced by 25% for
Offensive Missions. All other air strike Missions by units outside an air HQ’s command radius will
have the flying planes reduced by 10%. The command radius for most air HQ’s is five hexes.
However, Japanese Air Division HQs have a Command Radius of three hexes, while Japanese
Air Brigade HQs have a command radius of one hex.

The Command Radius of an HQ is displayed on its Ground Unit Information screen in the top left
corner.

Regarding the last sentence: subtract 1 from this number to have the real range in hexes. This goes for all HQ units.

I think there may be additional benefit beyond what's in the manual. Certainly more plains fly, but I find repair rates to be faster and missions actually more effective. Air HQs help a great deal....not to mention they extra support they give to a base.

I don't know if they US has any air HQs at the start of the war...I can't think of any. The UK has some though and they are again very useful. It bears careful thought how to deploy them. I think you get the 11th Air Force early and its worth sending to Anchorage or Dutch Harbor, but i think the 5th Air Force is next and it doesn't arrive for a while.

Take a look at Denver University. Their Hockey team, the Pioneers, is usually very good and the school is very good. Two recent Secretarys of State got their degrees there. Downside is that the tuition is expensive.

It is an outstanding liberal arts school for those interested in the social sciences. It's business school is also ranked very well, though I've heard the ranking may be a bit over inflated. I'm probably even a bit more skeptical about the hard sciences and it doesn't have an engineering school.

They do have a very good hockey team. [:)]

Halfway through Dreadnought by Massie. Really a very interesting book!! It really brings out the familial connections among the European royals. Fascinating reading.

Today is the first full day off I've had in the 13 days I've been here [:(] It's back to work again tomorrow as well [:(]

I've already had heat exhaustion, I was suffering on the third day. I'm still fairly white though, I've managed to avoid sunburn with plenty of factor 50 sunblock [8D] Since then I've been OK. I'm looking forward to getting home where 2 litres of water is a daily intake, not just 30 minutes worth. I have never been anywhere this hot, 50C may only be halfway to boiling, but it's like that most of the day. It's usually above 30 by the time I'm up in the morning and it doesn't drop below that until after I'm back in bed, if at all.
The jets don't like the heat either, the high temperatures cause the fuel to expand whilst it's in the tanks. This has the unfortunate effect of causing the jet to throw the 'excess' fuel onto the dispersal [8|] It also limits the amount of fuel we can put into the jets before they can't get off the deck. The engines hold their heat for a lot longer as well, with the result that I've burnt myself several times on hot pipes etx whilst refilling oils.

I've not seen any scorpions or camel spiders yet, but I have seen a few gekkos. Maybe friends of Onime? [:D]

My valiant defense of Humanity from the Alien Invasion is proceeding at a rather slow pace right now.  Vacations have certainly slowed things down.  Mynok just sent me the 2/26/42 turn last night.  From my perspective, I think I'm getting a good enough handle on the big picture that my turns don't need to take 3 hours anymore.  [:D]  I'm having a blast with the game, and hope to get back to a more regular pace once school and the new hockey season start up.  Then, I'll be back to a much more regular schedule.  The good news is that Mynok has another game going, so hopefully I have not been frustrating him with my slow pace too much.  [:)]
 
As far as the game goes, I think it's progressing without too many huge surprises so far.  There are Alien troops ashore at the northern end of Java now, with lots of ships at sea in the area promising more pain.  [:D]  I'm still holding out at Manila, but I think that's more because of Mynok giving other areas priority for his troops than my great leadership. [;)]  We've each made a small mistake or two, getting TF's shot up when they didn't really need to, but no major blunders that I have noticed. 
 
All in all, I'm learning a ton and having fun.  That's what it's all about!  [8D]
