Develop TOAW III further?

Post by Maddoc06 »

I've been playing this game for years (and it's predecessors) and I still think it's probably the best war game I've played. I think it is the complexity and detail of the simulation that I enjoy, and the game engine is great.

The main problem I have with TOAW III is that it is basically a campaign/battle simulation without any real strategic level component to hold it all together, allowing things like deliberate technology investments, in-game OOB development, investment in production, destruction of the opponents ability to produce, diplomacy, etc. The event engine has been used to try and simulate some of these things.

Something with basic strategic elements (along the lines of the new WW2:Road to Victory), with the detail and complexity of TOAWIII would be a great accomplishment. I'm sure that if we don't get caught up with further graphics enhancement, modern computers can handle the number-crunching. Is it possible?

Any takers?

I don't want Ralph to feel like I'm trying to crack the whip, and I know he mentioned he just took a vacation. But if he dropped any kind of chum in the water, anything, I'm sure there would be much more activity in the forum. Something stupid perhaps 'air cover is neither air nor cover, discuss!'

In all fairness to Ralph, there are probably other people at Matrix whose task is to monitor the forums for this sort of thing (cue to Jamian) , and Ralph did post some days ago, when queried by myself on Supply changes:
July was a bad month for me. Now that I'm back on track, I'm hoping to shwo more progress on this.

So we know there's work being done, and if the post he did on his blog regarding this subject is to be taken forward, we may really be on the right track. Albeit what seemlike a really slow track.

I'm beginning to realize that these 'wishes' i and others have bombarded Ralph with, namely production, strategic warfare, and naval combat, are not going to be necessary with the vast majority of scenarios. I understand that there are people quite content playing smaller scale, shorter scenarios that may have no need for all this. I'm sure they would prefer a patch simply to improve the scenarios they play. Perhaps this should be an optional form of TOAW. Like 'TOAW-strategic level edition' or a new name entirely. Naturally, I'm pleased as punch Ralph is working on it regardless.
