Sorta OT but it did happen in the Pacific during World War II

Post by spence »

March 1943 - the Russian freighter LAMUT ran aground on the Washington coast. Most of the the 52 people on board were rescued. The Coasties that assisted the ship tied their shoelaces together in order to have enough line to pull a messenger line and ultimately a towing hawser up to the top of the cliff. The Russkis had to climb the hawser. I think the ship and situation is pictured here after the crew was taken off.

Insane . . .
The x-ray is her siren song. My ship cannot resist her long. Nearer to my deadly goal. Until the black hole. Gains control...

It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

Apparently those Russian captains are not the best skippers - especially when sailing in the waters of the Evergreen State. Just a couple of years ago we had a Russian freighter run aground on its way into Olympia. It seems that the captain mistook a shallow bay for the passage between two islands that he needed to take...
fair winds,
