SS from Latest Map Maker

Post by Stridor »

I wanted to show you guys what the latest Map Maker is capable of auto producing.

I wanted to make a "high battle damage" type map, so drew up a quick 2D map in paint then loaded that up into the MM, told it some rules about how things should be autogenerated and this is what it came up with. Whilst the map layout is not randomly generated all the objects you see here were placed by the computer. This gives it a random flavour.

For the finishing touches you would place the final structures by hand from within the MM.

Just an idea for time. From the time I first opened up MS paint to this post took just over 90 minutes.

Lots of places for infantry to hide on this map [;)]

Enjoy.

Here is the zoomed out view. All object placements are random using the MM autogen system. If this were a final map I would tweak the position of some of the buildings but that would only take a few minutes.

Biffa,

Be my guest [:D]. The more bling the better it will look.

Actually if you wanted to do some multistory smashed buildings like a little battle on the Volga that would be really really cool. The new MM can randomize up Stalingrad maps pretty quickly now.

Thanks for all your hard work to this point though, you have done a huge job!

Regards

S.

I'm on it.

Someone else really needs to start cracking out some good maps now.

Personally I'm hoping to get to a point where we have just about enough for any map that we can think of, chasing rainbows probably, anyway pretty soon I'm going to stop making terrain and actually start playing with some of these fab toys, only problem is I keep thinking of stuff I'd love to see.

Here's a quick map using just two colors on the AI map, clear and dirt road.

Now, if we can only reverse engineer and have MM build an AI Map after it places the objects [:)].

There are ~ 1900 trees (2 kinds), and ~ 285 houses (3 kinds of houses) in this map ...

Actually I will let you in on a little tip.

The AI map I drew for the above map actually is a google earth image from current day Volgograd quite near to the Mamaev Kurgan. It was a simple mater to frame a 1x1k area in GE, take a SS bring that into PS and do some color subs and viola a realistic map in minutes. Would be harder to do with period WW2 B&W aerial photos but no much harder (provided you can get some good ones that is).

That's the method I use as well (1k selection from Google Earth), in combination with any historical info that is available.

Ever since Stridor agreed to redo the bridges and RR Tracks I can't believe how much easier (and fun) it is to drop a bridge now ... wait, I'm testing MM so I'm not suppose to have fun [:'(] ... this bridge works, yeah no problem, ahem.

Here's a quick conversion of the Winterstorm Level 1 map ... with RR Tracks lowered into gully and a bridge running across the top.

That's pretty cool.

Do we have a working model for the railway tracks that span the map yet?

Ben,

Stridor has the tracks I redid plus the msz and bmp files. He's going to prep them for the next version of MM ... I think. I just did some "pre-testing" of a few tracks so I'm jumping ahead when I shouldn't be.

I plan on cutting them up and making smaller pieces but I haven't gotten around to it. I'll see if I can work on them at the begining of next week. They still have the winter texture but we can say it's gravel not snow ... for now.
