Important changes

WW2: Road to Victory is the first grand strategy release from IQ Software/Wastelands Interactive, which covers World War II in Europe and the Mediterranean. Hex-based and Turn-based, it allows you to choose any combination of Axis, Allied, Neutral, Major or Minor countries to play and gives you full control over production, diplomacy, land, air and naval strategy. Start your campaign in 1939, 1940 or 1941 and see if you can better the results of your historical counterparts. A series of historical events and choices add flavor and strategic options for great replayability.

- Lots of historical errors, makes you bit annoyed playing the game.
no yugo partisans what Ive come across,

I am trying to mod event ( tm.asp?m=1894073&mpage=1&key=&#1896303) but the engine seems uncomplete, i.e. I would write events to change countries political orientation.
- AI is bad, very vunerable to flank encirclements and mass troops on certain places. It seem incapable of a coherent frontline.

And this problem is amplified by the supply system as I wrote here: tm.asp?m=1878986
- Hard to edit the game the way you like it as there are no editor,

Notepad rulez! [;)]
and there are no weather

This is a discutible design choice...
All in all game could be really good if they would work hard to improve it. As it stands now it's not competitive. But it could be.

I totally agree.

Hey JMass see you try to model more events. Dont forget you could also add albanian, greek, norweigan and french partisan events. Here are some other important ones yet seldom used that you can consider(dont know if you thought about them or if they are still in the game):

- UK leases Azores from Portugal
- Allies land troops in Iceland
- Creation of Croatia

hey JDMass:

More events that should be included(Im posting here in hope that this will not be a mod but included in next patch)

- 2nd Vienna diktat(1940, Hungary gets huge portion of Transylvania from Romania)
If Germany goes for it, Hungary will swing closer to Axis, if not Romania gets closer.

- Treaty of Craiova(Bulgaria gets Dobruja part from Romania), happened in sep 1940

- Sweden should have an event on winter war if they like to support Finland military. Historically they just sent volonteers and material, but if they did send troops relations to comintern should deteriate in favor of closer alliance to allies/axis.

An event created for the Slovak national uprising in 1944 could lower Nazi-German support fron Slovakia.

I was out for two days and I see quite long list of proposals.

let me answer for the first post first.

1. Some of them are indeed worng (Juzow/Stalino/Donetsk), but some has been named in the original language.
Looks like Gdansk should also be renamed (if we take under consideration % of citizens language).

2. This one is pretty hard. Some cities are in the game and some not. Of course we can put more of them but too much might unbalance the game. If we decide a city is very important for historical reason and won't make a bad input for playability then probably it will be added.

3. I will take a look.

4. Memel is out of the timeframe of the game, but that's not the point. I'm not sure are other demands positive for gameplay. Maybe we will give it a try.

5. To be honest some has been sacrified for playability. Some has been missed it's true. Fortunately, Wastelands Interactive has a geographer in the team, so I'll ask him for help with this. It will be improved in next patches.

6. You might be right. I'll ask a person who has got knowledge in this. If he confirm it will be changed. (Tornado goes trough his village so he might be cut off for few weeks).

7. As above.

8. As above.

Doomstrader here are examples of some easy changes for more historical feel, without a big increase in cities:

Delete/New city:

Stavropol - Maikop(with oil resource added)
Grodno - Brest-Litovsk
Bezeck - Demyansk
Kaluga - Tula
Tver - Kallinnin
Ljubljana - Zagreb
Soci - Batumi

New important cities:
Vyazma(Vyazma-Bryansk pocket 1941)
Baku oil
Taranto fleet base
Scapa Flow fleet base
Hanko area, dont need to be city just should be soviet territory
Novorossiysk

Well there you are. I was having so much fun playing it I didn't even notice any of this.

I wonder if you are able to enjoy a game at all, Kuniworth II?

Seriously though, why Scapa Flow? Taranto Fleet? Why the new cities? What benefit, exactly, would the game see by adding these?

Well I guess nothing, that's why Im now proposing to change the map so Spain looks like Uganda, UK should be named Banana-Kingdom, and Ronald McDonald should have an own country in shape of a big mac located in the north sea.

Im sure Judge Dredd will enjoy those "improvements".

Guys, please do not flame this thread.
We are all here to make the game better.

Kuniworth II, I believe that Judge Dredd would like to know is there something special behind your propositions. Correct me Judge, if I'm wrong.

behind my propositions?

To get a more accurate game ofcourse. Is that a problem?

If a game says it depicts ww2, it should do that, and if someone points out complete inaccuricies that is a good thing yes?

Kuniworth - lighten up. The first part was a joke.

The second part was a serious question about what benefit is there in having Scapa Flow (to pick one of your examples)?
In game terms, what would adding it serve to achieve "within the game"? If it's purely aesthetic, fine...it's your perogative to ask for it and it would mean nothing to me if it was added or not...so I would be happy either way. If there is some other reason...a more meaningful reason...then depending on that reason, I could've supported it.

I think I stated it in the beginning. There are two reasons:

1. I want to feel that Im playing ww2 as accurate yet playable as we can do it. Also it will improve the game: example adding the territorial disputes will change state boundries thus making the player face new strategic decisions.

2. The ww2 generations is in it's last breath(check out the link in  my sig for example), soon memories will fade. Young people rather play a game than read a book, to honor those who died and teach the younger generations I think we oughta depict this conflict as accurate and playable as possible. After all this was the most deadly conflict in human history.

Well, I didn't buy it to teach me history...that's what I use books for. Games are for gaming in my house.

However, as long as it doesn't break anything in gaming terms, then I have no reason to say anymore on the matter.

Good luck with your request.

Kuniworth... Interesting take on the game. Seems as if it has an appeal, I'll keep watching to see if the appeal develops. Good to see you again. Plus I can understand your precision in the Eastern Regions, people usually focus WW2 games with Brest-Caen-Calais with such precision but the regions less popular in Western Fiction Movies are ignored. The battles in the East had some of the highest death tolls and impact of the war. We don't really recognize them from the West because only Germans/Russians fought in them.

Seems as if this game is more of a beta version. That is requires a lot of tweaking to get down to brass tax. I hope that it improves, I like the overall appearance and it sounds like a fun/strategic-tactical scope ETO game.

Not sure I should get involved in this... There are a lot of other things out right now. Few things live up to your expectations, you can only hope and cross your fingers!

Knowing Kuni from SC boards, I know that his intentions are for the good for the game...sure, maybe some of them are not as important as others but I applaud the time he took to work on his thoughts....I cringe at what he will say when my SCWAW-RCW mod comes out in a week or two, but I know that his observations can only help in making a better game here, or in my case, a better Mod there.....[:)]

Kuni is just giving you the top dressing to fix.  All he did was pick the low hanging fruit.  Relax.  If you don't want to fix, then don't.  If you do want to fix it, then do.

As an old lurker in the SC1 forum I agree - and now we have John J Rambo showing up here as well - there must be something to this game ... [;)]

Now all we need is Terif, Zapp who created CEAW, Iron Ranger, CodeName Condor, Sombra and a few others... We'll have an ole party

I do not know though if this is SC1 type game or not I have just followed it as it was listed on the Paradox Games bestseller list for a day...

Personally I really liked HOI2, it had to grow on you, but it's almost impossible to MultiPlayer because relying on 5-6 people to keep showing up... CEAW I haven't been able to play the Demo because I have had errors, might try it again. Aside from that, Making History came out but it sort of like Axis & Allies '98 PC on steroids.

the problem with this game if it's good, or not. Do you dish out 50 and find out, shucks

P.S. If people are into old Empire Builders, Victoria HOI2 Civ4 all fun sim like games, can get dull over time

P.S.S. World in Flames is due out but I do not think any of us will have the patience for it. I looked at it, it would be like this X 100 or 1000

Darn cool to see all those legends of the old guard show up in support, thats the spirit guys. Hey Stercx lurker or not, I remember your name man.

But what da crap is Wagner renaming himself Falcon? Seems like ole JP and Rambo throwing some kind of transvestite roleplaying game or something. Now throw in a bottle of vodka and this looks very promising indeed.
