RE: Petropavlovsk falls...finally

Post by ny59giants »

John,
I'm about a week behind the actual game. I was going to say this a little later, but since you asked. He cannot take Russia. I have the Japanese "Ground Death Star" held in check at Kuysyheka (forts 4). The fall back is to Skovodino (forts 8 and building). Over at Borzya, the forts are at 9 and after the next AF expansion to 6, the big EAB will go to Chita to build this base to max. It I do fall back to Skovodino, I will have the interior lines and can move troops back and forth as needed.

SRA - I still have over 40,000 supply in Singapore. Until, I run out, he doesn't have enough AV there to take the base, IMO.
On Luzon, he still has yet to move his troops into Manila. What is he waiting for?? I build up forts (3) and still have enough engineers there repair the periodic air attacks. I have 47,000 supply in an Urban hex with an AV of 1950. This base is going to last a long time. [:D]
On Java, I have the forts at Malang half way to level 7 in a mtn hex (x 4 combat bonus) with 38,000 supply and should get between 500 to 600 AV there. It is a Malaria hex, but I took that over the clear hex at Soerabaja.

China is a stalemate. But, my troops are soaking up the 600 rifle squads per month. My 1st Army Group in Chungking has an AV of 750 and growing (it fills out to over 1200 squads!). My first Russian MIG group has made its presence felt (to be described in a future post).

India is being build up to be a fortress. I have at least BF and Bde in every coastal base, except the extreme SW corner near Ceylon, building forts since day 1. I have gotten out fragments from 3 infantry Bde and 6 out of 8 BF from Singapore to rebuild once that base falls. I can upgrade my Buffalo squadrons to Hurricane and Spits in 45 days. [:D] Unless he sends some CVs from the Central Pacific, he doesn't have enough CVL/CVE to protect his transports.

Australia has the usual problem of the northern bases are indefensible. I have troops at Darwin, but not enough to stop him from taking the base. I'm building up Exmouth on the NW corner. It is beyond extended range of Zekes from Broome by one hex. Thus, he will need carriers to take it. The defense of Perth and the west coast is priority one in Australia due to it being an enter/exit point for the map edge shipping channels. He can take the northern bases with little resistance, but Nemo gave the Australians extra divisions early.

Eastern Pacific is a house of cards from the Aleutian Islands to Tahiti. He doesn't have enough ground forces to hold it without keeping KB plus most of his smaller carriers there. I beleive they are at Kwajalein due to recon flights by B-19 (extended range of 44) and an "air bal" that has gone from 300 to over 1000 in the last few weeks. He has to keep his carriers here until he can get more troops out here. He assigned too many of his troops in Japan to Russia on day 1 and now doesn't have the PP to change commands to more them east.

Overall, I would say it will be another 2 to 3 months at least before the SRA is finally captured. Until then, he cannot do much. Afterwards, I would say northern Australia and then Nz would be his targets. India will be too strong by then. Right now, I have canceled my Palmrya and Christmas re-invasions due to the changes at Kwajalein (it is only 3 days at full speed to Palmyra area). I don't know if my Wildcats can stand up to his Zekes. I get CV Hornet next turn. The other 2 CVs need their 4/42 upgrade (expands my capacity from 72 to 90 and allows a 5th squadron on board). This will give me 5 CVs with 90 planes per CV. Option 1 is to go for these islands again after the upgrades of my CVs and most of my combat ships which will add significant AA guns. Option 2 will be to meet my troops now unloaded at Port Stanley and try to land in French Polynesia. A side benefit of having my "CVs in being" is he has to weight what he can afford to send to the west for any major invasion. My 4th British CV arrives soon.

Hope this answered your questions. [;)]

I find it very interesting how the three different games with the same mod are proceeding so differently. The Japanese certainly aren't over-running much in either of the other two games. In fact it seems to me that Damian is well and truly bogged down right now.

What are your rules about basing US bombers from the Soviet Union?
John Dillworth: "I had GreyJoy check my spelling and he said it was fine."
Well, that's that settled then.

Nemo,

I came up with some HR on strategic bombing. Damian believes and I agree that I could start it at anytime and by focusing on his HI, bring his economy to a halt soon. Thus, the rules below.
HR on strategic bombing (I can only use 4e bombers B-17/19/24 for this)
I was thinking that for July, August, September '42 - one industry attack with less 100 bomber/month
October, November, and December - two attacks of this size per month
The first six months of '43 - one attack per week with up to 150 bombers
July '43 on - gloves off totally.

We don't have a HR on restricting American bombers in Russia. Right now, I've exported Russian MIGs to China and PE-2s to India and Australia.

Comments:
My 4 American CVs with escorts arrive back on the West Coast. DDs will go to LA while CLs and larger go to San Fran. CV Hornet is arriving and this will bring me up to 5 American CVs. After the 4/42 upgrades, their aircraft capacity increases from 72 to 90. Their organic fighter squadron expands from 21 to 27 planes. I will be able to place 5 squadrons on each with some overcapacity, but I will keep it under 110% to allow flight ops. All but Hornet will have 2F, 2 DB, 1 TB and Hornet will have 1F, 3DB, and 1 TB (not enough carrier capable fighters available). Each CV TF will have a BB or CLAA, 2 CA, 1 CL, and 9 DDs. Having close to 500 planes should allow me some degree of freedom.

Air ambush in the skies over Hailar

Post by ny59giants »

ASW/Subs:
Another chapter in the saga of SS Barracuda (36/83). She is only 6 hexes away from Pearl. It is agony to watch the Combat Replays to see if she slide beneath the waves the previous turn.

Russia:
Hailar [Manchukuo] - This is the first major a2a in Manchuria. Damian slips in over 100 fighters from the previous day and I-16/SB-2M go down in droves. The MIG-3s do well and come out with about 1:1 in losses considering that many of them were still on AF attack.

Kuysyshevka [SIB] - The Japanese "Ground Death Star" is slowly taking down my forts here, but my next line of retreat is to Skovorodina which is rapidly approaching a level 9 fort in a wooded hex. Many of my Russian Rifle Divisions are above 90 experience with the rest rapidly getting to that level.
