Another test run

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

I running out of time, and I got good weather, so going for the throat this time, as the weather may not hold for 7 days in a row

but that was the charm, losses were pretty heavy on both sides, but that is how the game works

well, I am also doing things so I can either watch or see what happens, so I am not really playing to my style

also, in my game I ran, the LW was being bled white, in the long run, they wouldn't of been able to stand much more (of course, so were the Allies !)

Forgive me if this has been resolved already, but have you been able to cure the problem where Squadron Leaders / Colonels etc are shot down a little too regularly? If I recall, it was something to do with the way the game scanned the squadron list when aircraft engaged in combat.
Knife? That's not a knife. THIS is a knife!

that is a odd one, we did some stuff to it and are still looking at ways to make it not happen as much

the hassle is, it is at times, more noticeable, then normal losses, so it ends up looking worse then it is

so say you lose 80 planes today, and see 4 messages that the CO got shot down, you see and remember those 4, but sort of forget about the other 76 planes that were lost

it is something we are still looking at

remember though, each pilot is assigned a plane at the start of the day, so, if plane A is in combat, and it has the CO in it, it may end up getting shot down, or be the one doing the shooting, the game does not pick a plane and then assign a pilot to it when it is lost

and one trouble is, the CO could be the guy who made the first pass, and now is running low on fuel, or has some damage, so he breaks off and heads for home, now he runs into the enemy, it is no long 16 planes, or 48 planes or what not, but one or two, so the odds have just gotten alot higher, something bad could happen to him

which it does look like Bombers seem to get the CO attacked first, so am not sure if that is just luck of the roll, or if there is something else going on

and to the bad, alot of the CO were lost

LOL one of the stories I like the best, is a BG CO jumped into a Mossie that was on there base and flew along with his BG on a mission, so he could watch and call out instrutions to the group as to what they were doing wrong or needed to be doing, over Germany, he got a little close to the formation and one of the gunners in his group, shot him down

after the war, he said, he wasn't sure it was a mistake or not :)

Harley said it is a matter of how the game engine selects the attacking or defending a/c and it is a matter of adjusting the routines so it isn't "always" the C/Os a/c.

Yes - I actually have the section of code marked, so I can find it easily when I get time.

this the side result of a test I was running

went ahead and set up a one day battle for BoB41

and must say, kind of happy with it, other then the fact the score is wrong (LW starts with a 74 point lead, when it should be even (waynno is working on 2 other issues first, this will be his next chore, along with getting the editor to let me set values)

the LW (player) won, but it is one of those, many more Victories like this and the war will be over types

I don't see any butcher birds in the German list. This is a test run of BOB41 correct?
The first FW 190 groups went operational in March of 41. I assume the Germans would have used it in a
BOB in 1941. So why aren't there any 190's prowling the skys over London?

the A-0 and A-1 were made in March of 41 and were test models, the combat ready A-1 comes in later

(and it still had teething issues)

you get the 190, but it comes during the middle of the battle

I was just reading on the internet that the first operational A group became operational in March of 41. The preoperational models began in the Fall of 40. These preops had many issues that were worked out during the fall and winter. Hence, I was hoping these fighters would be included in BOB 41. Even few groups of these should have an impact on the RAF.

Hi Joey,

What Sarge says is correct, the first operational unit with the FW 190A-1 was II./JG 26 and it started conversion in Aug41. There was no operational FW 190A unit in Mar41.

05Mar41 - The first group of 30 mechanics and engineers, headed by Oblt Otto Behrens, St.Kap. 6./JG 26 and Lt Karl Borris T.O. II./JG 26 travelled to Rechlin to begin operational testing of the FW 190A-0.

01Aug41 - Erp.Kdo. 190 (Oblt Otto Behrens) moved from Rechlin to Paris-Le Bourget to begin training II./JG 26 on the FW 190A-1 (6./JG 26 to convert first).

19Aug41 6./JG 26 still converting to the FW 190A-1

21Aug41 first loss of FW 190A-1 (002; Brown 2+) by 6./JG 26 due to engine failure. Staffel still flying a mix of Bf 109Es, Bf 109Fs and FW 190A-1s

29Aug41 first combat loss of FW 190A-1 (008) by 6./JG 26 due to friendly flak

03Sep41 4./JG 26 begins conversion to FW 190A-1

17Sep41 first 4./JG 26 mission with FW 190A-1

I don't know what the internet source is for the FW 190A being operational in Mar41 is but the first missions with the FW 190A-1 were not flown until Aug41

Roger

and to be honest, it is a reach, to have the 190 in BoB41 as it is, they were being made, and set up, so we kept it in (there would of been a rush on and all)

my info on it, as Shaggy's the first models were being sent to the training unit in Mar of 41, and they did a lot of work to get the plane able to be ready for use, it had a lot of issues

Thank you for sharing those nice screenshots. But I spotted some cosmetic errors:
While the Staffel designation 2./SKG 210 is correct the Gruppe designation II/ZG 26 is wrong and should be II./ZG 26 - this seem to apply to all Gruppe designations.
It's probabbly better to use StG for Sturzkampfgeschwader instead of St.G or you would have to use St.G., K.G. J.G. etc as these were all abbreviations. Historical usage was either StG or St.G.

It may be the screenshot but some of the numbers look like having a smaller font or placed lower than the letters, especially visible in the SKG 210/ZG 26 screenshot - 6 and 8 look OK, 0,1,2 look to be smaller and 3,4,5,7,9 are placed somewhat downwards but size looks OK.

This is the first time I have looked in on this game and it looks very interesting. I will be back for more and consider adding it to my collection. One point I would like to add with regard to the legibility of the text is please drop the serif font for a sans-serif one. It would improve the legibility a thousand fold for those of us with aging eyes.
Hans
