Herman: hey there
Silent_Hunter_UK: Hello
Russell: Howdy
Russell: Internet issues all day so I may drop off at any moment
Silent_Hunter_UK: Game saved.
Herman: okay, thanks SH
Herman: crap
*** Russell is now known as Guest32034.
Herman: SH: you need to let me resign first, next time
*** Guest32034 is now known as Rufford.
Herman: there is a ghost on the server
Silent_Hunter_UK: Sure.
Silent_Hunter_UK: Sorry.
Herman: I'll get Freek to re-set it
Herman: anyway, good to finally get down to this CTD business
Herman: Ralf was in and we replicated the CTD with him, too
Herman: Freek and I were trying to find the easiest way to show you the CTD
Rufford: First, Any guesses what I'm doing wrong?
Herman: yeah
Herman: it could be that you are plotting a path to the 'wrong' place
Herman: sometimes, if your path ends over land, it might not work
Herman: (Link:

http://www.harpdb.com/h3/pdb/CTD.zip
Herman: here is a test file we think works pretty good
Herman: it is a saved game
Herman: if you load it up with ODb and ANW 393, I'll walk you through it
Herman: I ran it a couple of minutes from the sample file that was posted
Herman: it will give you some ideas how to replicate starting with the SCN file
Herman: but I'd like to show you the CTD first
Herman: we have crash logs with this stuff. are they helpful?
Herman: =====================================================
Crash information for this process:
A crash occurred at address:
0x5585cc
Access violation: The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access. An attempt was being made to read the address.
=====================================================
Herman: I can crash it with nearly any DB I try. I know that I went and tested with HUD, ANWDB, ODB, and PDb
Rufford: That crash log is in the GE?
Herman: y
Herman: I have 5 of them
Herman: they are all different. with different scens/dBs. do you want them?
* Rufford is looking at it.
Rufford: No, one is enough
Rufford: So following the directions...
Herman: wait
Rufford: It just selects Low..
Herman: let's just show you the CTD, first, okay?
Herman: please. I'll walk you through it
Rufford: Sure
Herman: let's make sure we're on the same settings, okay?
Herman: I use Low/Fast on the slider
Herman: Full window mode
Herman: when you load the saved game file, please turn off the "Windows Scheme" default you may use and use the one I saved with
Herman: got the game loaded up?
Herman: (you are using 393, right?)
Rufford: Going to the settings
Herman: I run without AALogs, too
Rufford: I'm using 3.9.4 beta whatever I got on my development machine
Herman: Only Nukes ativated
Herman: well, I can't guarantee a crash since I only have tested in 393
Rufford: None of that *should* matter
Herman: Freek took 2 tries to get CTD
Herman: sometimes, it takes me 3-4 tries to get the CTD, but it always happens
Rufford: I haven't messed with the alt/speed dialog code so it should be the same
Herman: I don't know if it is a time compression, path, ... whatever cause
Herman: ok
Herman: so, please select the helo
Herman: hit F2
Herman: use the Tab key to move over to the window with the 101 value
Herman: when it is highlighted, hit DELETE
Herman: a highlighted zero should appear
Herman: type in 594 to replace that value
Herman: hit the RETURN key from the keyboard (not the ENTER key from the keypad)
Herman: at this point, it should CTD
Herman: if it doesn't re-load the saved game and try again
Herman: as I said, 3-4 times is what it sometimes takes me, but sometimes less
Herman: sorry, my instructions were off
Herman: when it is highlighted, hit DELETE
Herman: then hit the RETURN key. THEN a highlighted zero appears
Herman: type in 594 to replace that value
Herman: hit the RETURN key from the keyboard (not the ENTER key from the keypad)
Herman: at this point, it should CTD
Herman: I just blew mine up
Rufford: No dice.
Rufford: I think the problem is that I'm testing in debug mode
Herman: please repeat the process, 2nd and thrird time
Rufford: Trying release....
Herman: ok

Rufford: How do you select the chopper?
Herman: click on it
Rufford: User the number pad for entering the new speed?
Rufford: Use rather
Herman: yes, I did
Rufford: Nada
Herman: how many times did you try to re-load and re-try the process?
Rufford: But with the crash log I can possibly handle the crash anyway
Rufford: 8
Herman: ok
Herman: that crash log comes from a different scen
Herman: oh, sorry
Rufford: Given that it's inconsistent, it may be platform specific
Herman: no, that crash log is for this scen
Herman: no, it can crash with different DBs and different a/c
Rufford: The crash log only needs to match the build
Rufford: platforms as in computer
Herman: oh
Herman: well, Freek, Frans, Shemar, Tony, Ralf, and I all crash it
Rufford: OS or magic juju beans
Herman: I think I even got Darren to replicate, but I could be wrong.
Herman: will it help if I make some crash logs with other DB and other aircraft?
Rufford: No
Rufford: If you can replicate consistently then it's the same spot in the code
Herman: ISTR that I was able to replicate the crash in SE, too
Rufford: Do you have a crash log from that?
Herman: but I can't seem to do it anymore
Herman: at least, not at this time
Herman: if I can, I'll send it
Rufford: Might have got it
Herman: 10 times with the SE and that specific saved game. unable to crash it
Silent_Hunter_UK: See you later.
Silent_Hunter_UK: Bye.
Herman: night, SH
Herman: thanks for the session
Silent_Hunter_UK: Np
*** Silent_Hunter_UK has signed off IRC (Quit: PJIRC forever!).
Herman: did we lose you?
Rufford: No
Rufford: I've replicated it
Herman: excellent
Herman: what was the cause?
Herman: path? time compression?
Rufford: Bad UI code
Rufford: And a fix
Herman: okay.
Herman: so, you want to go through the rest of your list?
Rufford: Not right now
Rufford: But soon
Herman: there were two bad reports. I concur. I've removed them from the HpH list
Rufford: I've marked the ones that I've been unable to reproduce so we can go through that list.
Herman: right. two are bad reports and already removed
Herman: we can discuss the rest when you have more time
