Invisible units

Post by Mickrocks201 »

It seems that when a unit retreats outside the visibility range ( in my case 4 hexes) it does not always reappear even when an opposing unit move adjacent to it. Makes it kind of hard to attack the invisible unit. I first noticed this when playing as Russia - for some reason the AI decided to abandon the German line and retreat all the units around a city (to my eyes just a vast space sudden empty of enemy). When I sent some units to probe I could see hexes I could not enter but no units. The following turn everything was visible.

I think the pattern is:

1) unit originally was visible to enemy units,
2) unit moved to a position where it outside the visibility of enemy units (and thus switched to invisible w/regards to enemy units)
3) when enemy unit moves to where the original unit should become visible it does not
4) at start of next enemy turn unit becomes visible again

Note that in testing this I played both British and Italian sides in Lybia so I could see what was going on

I have seen something similar.  I have noticed that I cannot move into a hex, and I will attack it, even though no unit appears on the map.  The attack dialog appears, and points are lost, or not.  I have not had a lot of luck with this technique!

I will save a game next time I see it.

Here is the saved game - it is from the autosave. Click to end the Slovakia turn then as the Brits move your armor west toward Tripoli. There are Italians there but they do not show. If you save the game after starting the British turn quit and restore THAT game, the Italians will show up OK. So it seems to be a refresh issue.

Note that if you go to the FLEET screen the units will show up when the GROUND screen is redisplayed. I just tried this with the saved game I sent you.
