The Jap CVs decided to fuel on the 14th though I had set the order for them not to.

Ideas, comments, etc...

Hi John, still following along and greatly enjoying your game!

Just a comment about this item. Everything I've read indicates that the "Do Not Refuel" setting for a TF only applies to refueling at a base. There is no way to prevent a TF from refueling the escorts from it's capital ships at sea. The only way to really get around this is to set a destination outside attack range of the enemy, and then manually order your TF to refuel the escorts, before you count on them to be ready for combat action.

exactly what USS America says!

IIRC changing your rtb destination to a closer one can help as well.

RE: Frustrations

Despite my protestations, Dan thinks I have lost interest in the game.  This is driving me nuts.  If I wanted out I would simply say so and hand the campaign off to anther player like I did with Mandrake.

I have 3 weeks until I find out about my Sentencing and since there is still a chance I could be yanked out of my home, I am spending as much time with my family as possible.  Had the joy of putting in a sprinkler system yesterday and today.  I am sore!  The renewed priorities has necessitated slowing down our campaign.

We just finished the 1/16/1944 turn and I will do an update tomorrow morning.  I still have all my economic notes as well for posting since I know Michael and Damian are curious!  [8D][8D]

What kind of DD's do you have left?  You should have somewhere around 60 or so still.  How many of those are Special Types (Fubuki and higher), vs. the old fleet DD's (Kamikaze, Minekaze, Mutsukis) which are semi-useful depending on role, and the small/old DD's (Momi, Ootori, Tomozuru, Wakatake), that are really mostly ASW escorts?

If your 60 left are mostly older, you are REALLY in a bind.  It helps if they are alot of newer ones.

The IJN starts with 21 2nd class DDs (Ootori etc), 34 old fleet DDs, and 69 Special Types.  You probably have built about 7 Akizukis, and maybe 15 more Yugumo/Kageros.

One of the interesting things playing Japan is you have to learn to use limited resources.  With the DD's, you really have to assign missions that play to their capabilities.

Q-Ball poses a set of good questions and thoughts.  To answer some of them:  I have lost most of my 2nd and 3rd rate DDs but the attrition has been so bad that my modern DDs are just too few in number.  I must have 15-20 repairing in Home Island ports as well.

My cruisers are in fine shape as well as my CVs, however, I am down 5 BB/BC now with 3 heavily damaged getting repaired.  The Fleet is a disaster.  I can still field a respectable force but really feel constrained...

You can send me a recent turn so I can plug it into Tracker (I'll have to upgrade it to the latest version first) and post some screenshots. it will make it easy to make comments from there.

Great idea.  I will send you a copy of the turn as soon as I get it from Dan.  Look around for pools of resources and oil.  I think I have been doing really well picking all that up but could always use help and suggestions...

I've put back on my Economics Minister's hat for a day. Here is a list of Resources within the empire.

John - you have only 14k worth of supply at Balikpapan to continue repairs of your Oil Centers. That is only 4 or 5 days worth. You will need to send some supply there.

Thanks Michael,

John seems to be doing a pretty good job so far...

Some initial points:-
[*]Armament needs to be increased a tad.
Production -> 21K + 14K = 35K
Out -> 34K + 18K = 52K

So I'd increase to about 350 / day
[*]He could turn off Veh assembly altogether if desired, until more is required, but then again I can only see 90 Days...
[*] Merchant Shipping is getting very late, I agree with John here he needs to turn on some Merchant ship building (which I see he has done)and then prioritise what is needed.
[*] Naval is doing what John intends and when CV Katsuragi goes down the slips, he can decide what else he needs.
[*] He could turn off 167 Nakajima Engines ... for a while if he wishes. Or does he want money in the bank ?
[*] Why is he repairing 110 HI ? We don't have enough Oil for the HI we currently have (2447*6=14682 HI)??
[*] Similarly stop repairing the Res Cntrs.
Res 20166 * 1.25 = 25207 - (Manpower 788 * 10 = 7880) = 17300 HI Capacity.

[*]HI usage currently looks around 11K, with a surplus of about 3K a day, Increasing the Arm will pull another 1200 HI (6*(350-157)) ... Oil is still the priority.

How do the regions look for Oil and Resources ?

If I've made mistakes I apologise but I just put in a hell of a day! If I have further thoughts I'll post..

Considering since Michael last looked at all this stuff that I lost Northern Japan and have then retaken it, I think the situation is pretty good.

Michael--If you get the chance can you show ships repairing in the Harbors?  If you can it will show just how bad off the Fleet is after all that fighting.

Michael--Is there any place with large amount of resources and/or oil that I have missed?  I THINK I've been collecting it all but one never knows...

There is a convoy carrying 30,000 supply heading to Balikpapan.  Should be there within a week or so.

I'll raise armaments some but intend to keep engines going so I can stockpile them.

When Katsuragi comes down the ways, I will shift all her buuilding points into DDs and try to get back to stockpiling some points.

Anyone else see anything significant?  Comments?  This is a much a Japanese Economic AAR as anything else.

John,
I agree your economy is much better than I expected after the last month ...but please don't waste those supplies repairing things your won't use & don't need (RES & HI).

Lastly if Michael had two consecutive turns he could see if there are any outstanding economic alerts ...

How do the regions look John for Oil / Res ?

John,
Here is the screen shot of damaged warships. There are another 10 not listed with only a couple heavily damaged DDs.

Resources - Look at the screen shot I posted (I sorted by Resources). Bangkok has a significant amount and I would say to load at Saigon and allow the AI to pull them down for ya. It may mean you need to micro-manage each turn (tell the AI to load Resources). Another Resource rich base is Kendari.

I have a Question probably more related to the tracker not the game.

How comes BB Ise (among other vessels) has a speed of 0 albeit SysDmg is 20, alas not quite crippled? Is the speed column showing the current speed of a TF rather than the maximum speed the vessel could do in current condition?
If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?
