New weapons and tactics

Post by mutt2050 »

I have played Battle tech for many years and had found your site about a year ago. I have not played the game much becuase of time conctrantsand hopefully will find more time to play and play against some of you. In battle tech we had come up with some ideas for new weapons and manuvers for the battles. I am putting this up because I did not see a section dedicated to this specific area.

My first thought was a tactic we used for the suicidal jock. The tactic was if you were badly damaged and insted of ejecting you would charge the nearest mech (ToS) and drop your reactor causeing yor mech (ToS) to explode and destroy the enemy. I think this should be added to the game. If any one else has any ideas or comments please post them here for descusion. And thank you all for your time.

Self-Destruction is an option. Look for it in TOS:Warring Suns.

Ok everone I have a new idea for a weapon. I saw someone suggested an emp pulse. I have tought that through and an emp pulse would not be to good as it would have a radius and nock out everyone in that radius be it friend or foe. My thought was to have a magnetic gyro disruptor. The MGD (yeah Miller genuine draft thought just hit me) would be either an energy weapon that would send out a a magnetic wave or a cannon type weapon that would fire a magnerical charged shell that would attach it's self to the hull of the titan which would temporarly disrupt the gyro functions causeing the jock to make a check to stay standing and slow down the titan for awhile. Perhaps even some sort of mine that when you enter the mined hex it would disrupt gyro function. Just a though any comments or revisions to this idea would be welcomed.

Too late :) What exactly is the difference between your "energy weapon that would send out a magnetic wave" and the EMP? Lemme guess, none?! ;) Who says EMP has a radius? NB doesn't.
There already is a weapon with a very similar effect to that which you propose, the BRG. No need for another one I think.

All the info on EMP pulses that I have seen show them haveing a radius. I have never seen any info even on a theoreticl linear directed EMP wave. Not to say it is not possible. The idea of the MGD is that it effects the gyro alone and not electronic systems as an EMP does. As for the BRG, I was under the impresion that the BRG effected the jock himself and not the Titan. Either way a directed EMP or MGD would be very usefull. The main plus that I see for an EMP over the MGD is that it would effectively shut down the Titan which I do not see as being very balanced. The MGD would just disrupt the gyro makeing movement and skill checks more difficult but balanceing out by still allowing the Titan to attack. I see both as good ideas but I see the MGD as being more balanced, for game play, than the EMP. In a real war/combat situation the EMP would be the better choice.

Ok, let me tell you a secret. The EMP stats are in the factory's weapon description file. The weapon was to be implemented long ago, but it stayed at the drawing board (balance issues I think). There's no radius there. Check it. You shouldn't go for info obtained in *suggestions*. ;)
The BRG does not affect the jock, it can cause a skill check, but the jock has his pilot skill reduced. That's different.
So, how do you affect the gyro magnetically? That is, without a radius, and without affecting anything else?
Have you ever heard of wave guides?

Ok I think I get what you are saying about the wave guides. The EMP pulse is generated in the barrel of a gun made of wave guides, right? Also you are right about the BRG I had it mxed up with the NB, sorry. As for effecting the gyro a projetile or missile would be fired that would burst open second before impact ( much like the air to air missiles of today) and dust the Titan with magneticaly ionized particals or a large elctron magnet that would attach to the hull pulling the gyro out of balance.

Yep, but magnets affect a whole lot of things, not just gyros. Electronics and magnets don't mix. Don't tell me, shielding?! :)

Well, your right magnets would effect other systems too but that is just another benifit. I do see one flaw in the EMP cannon though. If you have an ally behind the target he could get hit by the EMP burst too seeing as EMPs do not disapate after hitting their target. You are right though there is too much simalarity between the two to worry about seperating them. ;)

Yea, and so would an NB burst, but that's just details ;) An hex is 333m across, chances 2 titans are really close to each other are slim. Even in a CC situation they're not grabbing each other. Unless they're in Close Contact, and not Close Combat :)

Yeah, you right its just argueing symantics, but it would be cool to see it have a similar effet as the missle accidents.Opps I just shut down my ally in close combat. That would add a serious twist to the battles.:D
