Questions from a prospective buyer

I used to play lots of Strat-o-Matic football, and I still own a copy of Sports Action Canadian Pro Football which we played for 1 or 2 seasons. Anyway, if I understand correctly, with Maximum Football, you can play a CFL game with CFL rules on a CFL regulation size field, or a NFL game with NFL rules on a NFL size field. Also, the players are rated based on the previous years stats but the actual team and player names are not used. Am I correct on the above? Can this game be played using Hamachi? Thanks.

Hamachi?  Is that a Linux OS?  If so, I don't think so.  Max Football taps into DirectX of Microsoft OS's so its probably not likely a Linux OS would work with the game.  On the other hand, (I have not tried this) but they have emulators for Linux OS's that make some Microsoft games work on Linux OS', so Max Football MIGHT work on a Linux, but it is not supported.  Now if Hamachi is some other type of platform (console perhaps?), then I don't have a clue.  [8|]  Even a Playstation couldn't run Max Football.

as for your orginal questions, yes, you pretty much summerized what kind of game Max Football is.  A very customizable simulation of Football.

Hamachi is a type of software you would use to play head 2 head, if im correct. No, max doesnt have a head 2 head mode like that. Two people at the same computer is the only way.

There are no licenses, NFL, CFL or otherwise. So players and teams are fictional, players generated by the game.

Not to my knowledge. To the best of my understanding (from David a long while ago), players have a hidden potential rating and progression/regression is not based on performance (similar to what FBPro was and the opposite as to what Madden is) - this is a plus, imho.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, here.

Ahhhhhhh... now that explains things.  McHugh, this Hamachi VPN is an interesting concept.  Not sure if it would work with Max Football, but according to Wiki, it brings up some possibilities for Internet Head-to-Head play.

The player are not rated based on previous stats. This concept has plausibility when you are historic replay player but for any other purposes it is problematic. Football stats are too much influenced by team tactics and team play. When you have a DL which can not really provide pressure on the QB the interceptions stats of the CB are affected. Pass coverage is an other matter because many concepts are not only based on one player the whole secondary is involved and when one player misses his assignment then an other player can perhaps not defend the pass. The public opinion is here often wrong.

When defense is more in a "bend-but-do-not-break" modus you will not see too many turnovers. And there are many, many other aspects.

That`s why i think that a football sim should never have ratings based on stats.

Football is a team sport much more than baseball.

If Maximum Football was set up to work H2H on a LAN, it could use Hamachi.  It isn't set up to work H2H on a LAN, so it's a no go.
 
I did bring Hamachi up in the private forum.  It could have made it easier to get H2H into a future game by providing LAN support rather than having full internet support, but the view was that most of the same work would have to be done for either.
 
At this time, Maximum Football is H2H only with a "hot seat" game.

Maximum Football doesn't have any hooks or output that could be used to do it.
 
A techie could only pull it off if he had the source code and was allowed to build it in.  Even that would be more difficult than rebuilding those parts of the game from scratch.  Either way, it isn't going to happen without David Winter allowing further development.

Thank you for all the replies. We use Hamachi for Tiger Woods PGA Golf and it works great. Too bad Maximum Football can't be played head to head as I could see lots of online leagues being created.
