I Had A Really Weird Dream Last Night
Now, I haven't played SPWaW in a while, and I've never had a dream like this before. I found myself in a command post on an island, and was giving orders to company commanders. I had a map table in front of me, and I could look out and see the ground elevations in the distance. Even while it was happening, I realized that this game had invaded my subconscious. I awoke from this in the middle of the night, and was thinking, "WTF?" There were no naked native girls or anything remotely pleasant. I was literally THERE, IN the battle.
Either I'm losing it, or I gotta fire up the game again. The truth is probably a mixture of both. [X(]

Ok, I started up a new USMC campaign, and in my first battle, I see a battlefield with jungle-strewn ridges in the distance. Nah, this is TOO creepy. It reminds me of the scene I saw in the dream. An odd coincidence, or... (Twilight Zone theme playing). [X(]

I am sure you can almost hear Col. Afrikamoto issuing orders just past that ridge you see in the dream.

Meeting engagement is ok by me. Although I suspect I will get creamed either way. [:)]
Originally we were thinking June 45, although not "historically" accurate for the period, still fun -- although my late war troops will rot for the most part, I do gain access to some of the late war AFVs that normally you don't see at all in any historic battle. I have little experience fighting USMC in a meeting engagement, usually only in an assault for obvious reasons, so this will be an excellent learning experience for me -- because usually my core forces I take are based upon mostly static defense and some unique mixtures of equipment not normally seen in a typical battle.
KG can attest to this. Although he beat the crap outta me last time, I made him earn it, eh, KG? [8D]

Glenn mentioned that he wanted me to design it again. June 45 is cool if that is what you guys want. I assume that you will take the Japanese?

I say even the field a bit and make it 1943 or 1944...by 1945 with the massive US firepower advantage a one eyed monkey playing the Marines will usually have a cake-walk all over the Japanese.[:)]
RE: I Had A Really Weird Dream Last Night
Nihon and I discussed this, and we both agreed on a small map, with forces @approx 2000 points each. The main thing is that we need to be on the same page. I don't think he's gotten the latest ENH version yet. I also will need to get the "generic" OOBs, as I've customized both the Japanese and USMC for my own use.

I thought about this too, Ken. Since it is ahistoric, one could imagine an alternate timeline where the war was still in full force (maybe the carriers were sunk at Pearl, etc). A simple boost to the Japanese stats and the use of better troops should balance things out, no?
Glenn,
Ima start playing around with it, based on the information you provided. I am proud of you for trying another PBEM, by the way. [8D]

Thank you, Goblin. [&o] BTW, Mr Afrikamoto was a good opponent in our previous encounter. To tell the truth, I had as much fun in co-writing the DAR. Let's hope the next one is a "real corker". I'm already getting psyched up. I'll be wearing my 1st MarDiv "Old Breed" T-shirt. I wore it when I met Wild Bill at GenCon in 2005. It garnered his approval. [:D]

RE: I Had A Really Weird Dream Last Night
Having a fun opponent and a great time writing a DAR/AAR is part of the allure of PBEM. Bernie, Hellcat, Mogami, and M4Jess were my memorable AARs, since they were non-stop laugh-fests. I've played a few guys that did not even post to a DAR that I started for the match, and were less than fun type of guys, and it killed the enjoyment for me.

RE: I Had A Really Weird Dream Last Night
Sorry, on the road working so slow between postings.
What KG said, small map, 2k points each, and yes, Japanese side for me. June 45 is fine. We will use the ENH version....I am downloading that in a few minutes and will play a few generated battles to get back my chops with that and learn the OOB of that version.
KG was a great enemy, and I REALLY loved the map you did up for us Goblin. It was a lot of fun and i enjoyed every bit of it. It was indeed my favorite SPWAW experience to date, thus I want the rematch and perhaps down the line a run at a few of you guys. Those that like Russans, I am more than willing to do a Nomonhan battle, or even made up battles, Japs vs. Germans, etc....one Tiger would probably eat me alive...hmmm...maybe I will try that later today. [:D]
My goal is to master the IJA in SPWAW to make fun for others to play against me and have fun doing it. The AI is crap compared to a real live person, so I enjoy the challenge.

RE: I Had A Really Weird Dream Last Night
Thanks for the compliments Nihon! I am likely using a map by Whitmire called 'Jungle River' (IIRC). Excellent map if a bit sparce on the cover (I am going to add some).
If you guys are OK with it, I am shooting for 2k plus a platoon of armor or other 'extras' for either side. This would likely make the battle around a 2400 pointer or so.

40 hexes (2000 yards) north to south is my definition of a small map. Medium is 60 hexes wide, and full size is 80 hexes wide. I base these definitions on the maps that are generated in a long campaign.

RE: I Had A Really Weird Dream Last Night
I have the new ENH version, so we should be good to go. Enjoying it now, although STILL when I try and generate an assault beach landing battle vs. the ai my forces and the ai do not appear on the map, very odd. Otherwise, everything works great and I am, so far, enjoying the ENH version very much.
