RE: GPW v6a
Greetings all,
Getting back to all the post
and the mess we had. Archduke agree with me so why not
a "fix" set? You are Europe so you do first. Archduke to
Rufus (or viceversa) and then you send to me in Canada so I do in in my evening while you sleep and the next day Stavka
as a completed file. If one Europe players is unable to play he says it and the other Europe player does it. Voila!

RE: GPW v6a
Have done my turn again and named file like this : Russia_29_June_1941_wdone_s_swdone_nwdone.pt2
This file I will send to Mehring now. Have checked. All fronts (nw, w, sw, and Crimea) have moved now. So, this turn should be finished now. If not, it is up to Stavka to send to missing player.

RE: GPW v6a
Sorry to have to quote myself, and only from the penultimate post but "Before anyone starts blaming the system we're using for this, I am reminded of a time zigzig did almost the exact same in our WaW game. S^$t happens, so let's deal with it."
Well, one time zigzag sent me the file from his previous turn and if I hadn't noticed we would have lost a turn.
Read a few game threads and it happens a bit "X, you sent me the wrong file."
"Oh, sorry, I'll send again tonight"
You see it all the time.
But some are siezing on every hickup which is not necessarily specific to this system, to get rid of this system. Why?
The rigid systems advocated do not eliminate the possibility of this problem happening, so no gain there.
Rigid systems are organically slow and therefore will never speed up, so no gain there.
A lesson fron history, and human behaviour in general. Rigid systems are often a response to insecurity when confronted by something new and/or challenging. Hmmm.
We are experiencing problems with this new system but all the problems have a solution. When solved, it will be fast. It will make an otherwise unplayably long campaign playable.
In fact, this flexible system makes the mistake EASIER to remedy than if it happened in a rigid system. We do not have to re-do all the turns, as someone suggested, just the missing one from the latest file- West Front's file. Already it's faster.
I have not seen one single reasoned argument in favour of reverting to a rigid system, just some understandable confusion among some players who are confronted by something new which recently has changed almost every day as it takes shape, and to make matters worse, expressed in a foreign language.
You have my sympathies! But if such players were to reverse that complaining energy into trying to make this work, it will work and we will never look back.
No retreat! Advance to flexible turn sequences!

RE: GPW v6a
I agree with Mehring that a flexible system is quicker and when we will get used to it this system will even be better to handle. But it needs communication. So, please use this forum to tell whats happening.
I dont know why west-front turn was lost, which caused some confusion. But renaming the file after the turn is done in the way Mehring has suggested and posting a message of doing and sending the turn will keep anyone informed about the currnet state of the game and hopefully easily point out, where something goes wrong. So we can see how to redo the last step before the mistake and bring all on its way again.

TO ALL:
Ok but I should be the last one to play because
I am in Canada and I rarely can post during your afternoon
evening because of my work[:(] so I get a little mixed up
in all the talk going on. Is it ok? Facing pc each night anyway.

All you need to do is follow the proceedure-
Red= stop Green= go
1. Are your orders finalised?
No- wait for, or finalise orders with HQ if you have any coments ,disagreements etc. Yes, go to 2
2. Do you have the current file? Check forum posts against last file received.
No? That probably means someeone is currently executing their orders, but maybe they forgot to send the file or it didn't arrive. Email last player to post if in doubt.
Yes, Go! Post in the forum thread you are executing orders. Then send the finished game file to everyone else.
So simple, so fast. We're not waiting for anyone but the last player, that's because we have to. If you're the last player, we'll wait.

Uuups, the final test. So behave boys, or we will get a bad report and will not move to next class.
So, obey orders from Stavka, do turns quick and be nice and polite to the old man who tells us what to do. [:)]

West front done
West front turn done and send. Report to Stavka follows later.
RE: West front done
West Front not done because you have no orders. This is a repeat of last turn. Why is this happening?

RE: West front done
Oh joy!
I am awaiting orders from STAVKA (I imagine this is still mehring) for SW front. I imagine these will be coming v. late tonight or tomorrow.

RE: West front done
@Mehring: Just wrote a mail to tell, why I have done moves.
But here for all: I misunderstood the message from Mehring and thought we should finalize the orders given last time. It was not possible to move all units to the positions given in the orders, because the way was too long. So some orders still remained to be finalized.
Last time we got a file with orders, then the pt2-file. This time we got pt2-file, no orders, but this:
"Please try to finish and finalise your orders with the Front by tomorrow evening."
So, this is what I did. I finalized the orders. Please, next time say clearly that orders will follow. And please keep in mind that we might not be able to execute orders tomorrow when we get them tomorrow.
So, when you ask us to do turns tomorrow I understood we should speed up and have only one day for doing turns. I havnt got the idea that you expect us to do turns til tomorrow when we get orders not before tomorrow.

RE: West front done
OK, thanks, I can see the logic to what you've done. I didn't realise this was so much a language problem. What I meant by finalise orders-
From post #125 above-
"All you need to do is follow the proceedure-
Red= stop Green= go 1. Are your orders finalised?
No- wait for, or finalise orders with HQ if you have any coments ,disagreements etc. Yes, go to 2
By finalise I mean get their details agreed between Front and HQ so they are ready to execute.
No worries.
