AI for MWIF - Chile
Chile setup AI
Chile Forces
2-4 CAV, RES 3-3 MIL
Chile has one basic setup:
* Capital defence: Is just as the name suggests a setup where the Chilean
land unit is setup to defend Santiago.
Chile has two extreme setups:
* Invasion defence: the Chilean land unit is setup to defend the Chilean port Valparaiso to make it more difficult for the attacker to find an undefended port close to the capital.
* Marauder defence: Is just as the name suggests a setup where the one of the Chilean unit is set up to raise mayhem before Chile is beaten. The List of targets is: Argentine oil well, La Paz in Bolivia and resource hex in Bolivia/Peru.
Declaration of war
Given a Western allies declaration of war and JP/GE control of Chile OR a GE/IT/JP declaration of war with and US/CW control of Chile the suggested reasoning for the AI could be as below.
Threats to guard against:
* Threat of paradrop on/close to Santiago
* Threat of invasion close to Santiago
* Threat of enemy land units entering Chile from Argentina
Good hopes:
* Chance of intervention from controlling power
* Chance to try to conquer Bolivia
* Chance to try to capture resources in Bolivia/ Argentine/Peru
* Chance to try to step on facedown allied unit(s)
* Chance to try to step on facedown axis unit(s)
Threat of paradrop on/close to Santiago
IF the Weather is Storm or Blizzard the no risk of paradrop
IF any of the countries at war has a:
Organized ATR AND
it’s in supply or can be put in supply AND
the ATR has range to Santiago/within three hex from the capital or can be put in range of it by naval transport AND
there is a organized PARA AND
it’s in supply or can be put in supply AND
the PARA has range to ATR or can be put in range of it AND
the PARA and the ATR belongs to countries that can cooperate AND
the chance of a successful paradrop is > 20 %
THEN
Threat of paradrop on/close to Santiago
Threat of invasion close to Santiago
IF the Weather is not Fine or Rain then there is no risk of invasion
IF any of the countries at war has a:
Organized TRS/AMPH/SCS AND one of A or B
A)
it’s in supply or can be put in supply AND
it has range to Peruvian Cost/Chilean Cost AND
there is a organized LandUnit AND

the LandUnit can invade from the transporting unit AND

the chance of a successful invasion is > 20 %
B)
It’s in the Peruvian Cost/Chilean Cost the AND
there is a organized LandUnit stack with the transporting unit AND
the LandUnit can invade from the transporting unit AND
the chance of a successful invasion is > 20 %
THEN
Threat of invasion close to Santiago
Threat of enemy land units entering Chile from Argentina
IF any of the countries at war has
A organized LandUnit AND
it’s in Argentina AND
it can reach Santiago in two impulses AND
it’s not blocked by ZOC.
THEN
Threat of enemy land units entering Chile from Argentina

I've just had an idea peskpesk.ORIGINAL: peskpesk
* Marauder defence: Is just as the name suggests a setup where the one of the Chilean unit is set up to raise mayhem before Chile is beaten. The List of targets is: Argentine oil well, La Paz in Bolivia and resource hex in Bolivia/Peru.
You should post a screenshot that shows the minor country and its surrounding neighbors, so that the people on the forum here, who do not have the full map, can have ideas of more Marauder defenses.
If they don't see what is around, they can't guess what the Minor Country can have as Marauder defense.
Thanks again for doing that, I think that this is great, and that you are doing it in a great way.
Also, what about doing Brazil ? It was discussed in the Argentinian AI thread, so I though you would do Brazil next.
Also, I think you'll also have to do all the Minor countries that have Territorials, so that the AI has an idea of where to setup those TERR. The Capital Defense is often the only option, but if you do them the way you did the previous, I suppose there may be other ideas around.
RE: AI for MWIF - Chile
For Chile, that is a large country, here it is in 2 screenshots for example (Zoom level 2).ORIGINAL: Froonp

I am not sure I understand this about Territorials. The only Territorials that would be set up when the Minor is declared war on is from the NEI (Netherlands East Indies) and Belgian Congo. And peskpesk has included their Territorials in the setups already. The other are set up from the start of the war as a Major Power Unit or will be brought into the game as a reinforcement.
For me it seems better that the Major Powers AI handles their placement as reinforcements.

Yes, but for example, how will Japan AI setup the Manchurian TERR ? This one may not be a good example, but how would an AI Italy setup the Egyptian TERR it has built after having conquered Egypt ? Or the Palestinian TERR ?ORIGINAL: Orm

Maybe it is good to review the countries that have TERR to see if there can be interesting setups for their TERR.

Nice idea Patrice, I will include a map of the surrounding neighbours with the all future setups.
Yes, Brazil is indeed high up on my list and it’s almost done, In the next couple of days you should see it. Sometimes I work on several minors simultaneously.
At the top of my head I know only NEI and Belgium that have a territorial as a neutral minor.
Most other territorials are major power controlled and handled by their AI and not part of minor country setup AI. When they are build the AI reinforcement routine will handle them (both for major and minor countries) and place them in cities. But it’s a risk that some Marauder options might be missed (Unless the routine is as good as Grand Master WIF player). I suppose Steve would welcome our help in pointing them out so they can be included in the major power setup routine.

This was what I meant. Whatever the routine that sets them up, we can help feed it.ORIGINAL: peskpesk

These are not minor country setups to my way of categorizing things though. This falls under reinforcements, since the territorials under discussion are restricted to cities when placed on the map.
But they are quite different from other reinforcements because of the out-of-the-way places they arrive. So, territorials for countries bordering the MED will be handled like normal reinforcements, since they are typically in the thick of the action upon arrival. But those in central and southern Africa might be able to do something unusual, due to their unique starting point.

No. Chile is not an important country to attack. My guess is that maybe one game out of 1000 games see action in Chile. But the AI must be ready for it if it happens.

More to the point, if the AIO handles these setup badly, then players are more likely to attack - and grab some easy advantage over the AIO.ORIGINAL: Orm

RE: AI for MWIF - Chile
Sorry if it came off as a dumb question...but.... I ask because once when playing the board game my AXIS opponent invaded northern Argentina and crossed into Chile. He was basically trying to split off the lower part of S. America, and ended stationing Jap subs in Chile, and German subs in Argentina. Until the U.S. came into full force I really had a hard time. I'm very curious and eager to see really good AI developed.

Your opponent must have been willing to see the US in early (and must not have been playing with limited overseas supply) to be attacking minors on the America map (USE cost 12)!
But, yes, inventive Axis powers can make use of the Americas to hurt the Commonwealth if they can get the bases in Africa - and the Allies (particularly the US) occasionally attack the various minors to pick up extra production.
