Invasion Supply Bug?

Post by seaforth7 »

Looks like there is a bug with supply chain source for invasion supply. As Russia I own Holland as a free state, it started the turn with a depot in Amsterdam. My fleet with corps loaded moves from Amsterdan to invade Sweden. In the land tiurn I land in Sweden and try to place a depot on one of my 2 heavy Fleets transporting the invasion forces. System tells me I can place a depot on either of the two fleets. I can't see anything in the rules that would say I can't place a depot, I'm I missing something or is there a bug in the supply chain logic?

I think you have to trace supply to your home territory, in which this case Holland isn't.

I'll try and look into it.

Your best bet for invasion supply is to leave a fleet (any type) with 1 factor in it, in a home port with a depot. This way any and all other fleets can trace this supply and you will not have any problems. This also allows you to move your fleet away from the open water (like into a port for the econ phase) and build a depot in the port you are invading as long as you have taken the port and left a garrison there on a prior turn.

I hope this helps a little more.

According to the rules, you don't need to trace supply to your home nation. You only need to trace it to a valid depot which is a port supply source (or, can trace supply to a supply source)

Also, you shouldn't have to have a fleet in port with your depot (in Amsterdam)

However, I've noted that the game is highly inconsistent in this matter. I've seen situations where it allows the depot chain one turn, but then disallowed it the very next turn, even though no fleet or depot moved.

The problem is getting the necessary saved game. The only way one can prove this is to have it in place two turns in a row, but it's not possible to get back to a previous turn's saved game files unless one manually saved them at the time (which one wouldn't think of, because the problem has not occurred yet). So, I haven't been able to put in a bug report yet.

I believe that he can not place the depot if he was in the blockade box. I recall that in order to provide invasion supply, one must be in the adjacent sea area.

Thanks for the replys todate. I am not in the blockade box but a sea zone. There should be no need to have a 1 ship fleet in the supplying port and the rules say a controled minor country can be a supply source. The other thing that could be impacting it is that Britain has a fleet with a supply depot in the same sea area, could there be a bug relating to # of supply depots in a sea area?

See 10.5.4:
10.5.4 Invasion Supply
A depot may be constructed on a fleet in a sea area and used to provide supply for all corps and/or besieged port city garrisons into all adjacent land areas (but not beyond) at the normal depot supply money point costs.
Invasion supply can only be used if an unblockaded friendly controlled port that is a supply source or contains a depot that is part of a valid supply chain exists from which supply can be traced to the fleet. Note: the depot built on a ship must be that of the same major power.
If the fleet containing the depot should move for any reason, the depot is lost.
Invasion supply does not allow reinforcements to be placed, nor can it be a link in a chain of supply, it only directly supplies corps in adjacent land areas or besieged port city.
No more than one depot for invasion supply may be placed in any one sea area.
Invasion supply is not possible in a sea area north of the ice line during winter months.

thanks

From the original rules:
7.4.4 INVASION SUPPLY: A depot may be constructed on a fleet in a sea area and used to provide supply for all corps and/or besieged port city garrisons into all adjacent land areas (but not beyond) at the normal depot supply money point costs. Although this is normally used to supply disembarking corps, it can be used without the need for an actual "invasion" (disembarking corps). 7.4.4.1: Invasion supply can only be used if an unblockaded friendly controlled port that is a supply source or contains a depot that is part of a valid supply chain exists from which supply can be traced to the fleet.

7.4.4.2: If the fleet containing the depot should move for any reason, the depot is lost.

7.4.4.3: Invasion supply does not allow reinforcements to be placed, nor can it be a link in a chain of supply-it only directly supplies corps in adjacent land areas.

7.4.4.4: No more than one depot for invasion supply may be placed in any one sea area.

7.4.4.5: Invasion supply is not possible in a sea area north of the ice line during winter months.

7.4.4.6: If the route from the port to the fleet must go into or through the Dardanelles sea area, the permission of the major power controlling the area (if any-see 10.7) is required.

NOTE: This was quoted from the original rules, without errata. However, the wording with errate applied for the paragraph in red is the same.
