Captain, it looks like the SS Titan Uranus has gone aground right off the coast of a little town in Newfoundland, Canada. What, did you say the town's name was?

These signs look like something from an old book.

"That will be 1 pound, 3 shillings and 4 pence, please sir"

"What? For one Green? Why that's wartime profiteering!"

"Well, we're all digging for victory sir...blah blah...Dunkirk spirit...blah blah...up the apples and pears and gather 'round the old Joanna..." etc

Or is it 2 rods, 3 chains and a fathom to the Secret Bunker?

Only joking chaps. I read somewhere that the retention of these traditional, mile-based signs is some kind of bulwark against creeping Euro-domination. I love that stuff, especially when furiously delivered by some ruddy-complexioned, upper-class twit in tweed. It also reminds me of Jim Hacker's Euro-sausage speech from Yes Minister. It was one of the occasions where he got all Churchillian and actually garnered public support, although that inevitably would have caused some diplomatic spat that required a humiliating backdown. Well, bugger me. I found it...

Those guys are really funny, I hadn't seen them before but I did enjoy Absolute Power. One of my favourite bits was when Stephen Fry's character still wanted to do PR even when he finds out the client is the British Nazis.

Charles: "We're not about to ditch the client suddenly because things get a bit eggy"

Martin: "A bit eggy!? Charles, they're f@#%ing Nazis!"

Charles: "Well think about it. That's the ultimate PR challenge isn't it? Decades of terrible press."

He goes on to recite their achievements "...the autobahn, the Volkswagen, an iconic use of dark leathers; and they made the sausages run on time" [:D]

It's from the MC Hammer song "U Can't Touch This". It's a Gen X/Y thing. Here he is in his trademark "Hammerpants". Ludicrous I know, but that was black fashion in 1990.

Used to play Everquest. One of the features of the game is the ability to type /assist {character name} and attack the enemy they are fighting. assist shortens to ass.

Now the main tanks in our guild were Pounder and Reamer. A lady that played with us had one of her daughters ask her while playing why she was constantly typing /ass pounder while playing the game. We all had fun with that for a while.
Favoritism is alive and well here.
