What do the numbers mean

Say I want to take a FT into a port to refuel and the base says it has 1500 fuel. What dose that mean??? 1500 gal. 1500
tons, 1500 barrels? Is that enough fuel to replenish a small TF or would I suck um dry and still not have enough?

I admit I do not know the exact answer.

After playing for a while and after repeated refuelings you sort of get a feel for it.

Big ships take more and little ships take less.

And 1500 fuel units can easily be sucked dry by a medium sized convoy. The larger the ship the more fuel units it needs, so a cTF of DDs will need substantially less than a Tf with CAs or BBs. 1500 fuel is generally what I might accept for a forward base to keep its PTs operational, but I make damned sure that all resupply or reinforcement TFs coming to that base have the toggle for refueling set to "off" so that those ships won't deplete that port's fuel.

Is the number not linked to tons? eg in CHS AO Sunosaki is listed as capacity 5000, which just happens to also be the amount of fuel in tons she could carry as 'cargo'. Other ships seem to also be similar in being linked by capacity to historical grt. Or is that just me seeing coincidence and there's a bizarre calculation involved in order to figure out game capacity in units? [&:]

M.AP - 1500
L.AP - 4500
TK - 750
MSW/PG - 150-200

I can see that I am in trouble . I also have a carrier FT running low, some AO's on the way but they are a long ways out.

More seriously, how are the numbers for ships figured out if the real ship used tons and the game world uses units?
