Active X Component Can't Create Object

Post by Frenzy »

I have the problem I've seen others have where the game won't run. I tried to completely remove MaxFB and reinstall using 2.0 and I still get Active X Component Can't Create Object and Couldn't Open Database errors. I'm using Windows XP and my systems specs are well above the minimum. I have let the game install DX9.

Is there anybody that can help me with this?  As of this post 35 people have viewed this so there has to be some interest/others that have the problem.  From what I can tell, active x is having a problem with either a .dll that needs to be registered or an ACL permissions problem on the file system.  I doubt it's a file that needs permissions since Everyone has access down the file tree and I'm and an admin on my PC.

Did you allow the game to install its game components as well as DirectX 9? If not, please allow it to do so.

If you have any anti-virus/security software running, turn it off before reinstalling to make sure it's not interfering with the installation.

Try a reinstall and delete the game before completely and even the folder. There can be a trap when the game is installed and the installer checks DX9. The best to do nothing and wait. I had onetime pressed a button too soon and had later a similar problem. But i am not an expert here it is more guessing.

Frenzy, I have read your post, but there isn't much I can do.  I am a football guy and not a Windows guy.

David, Matrix Games, or someone with more experience will have to chime in.

Assuming you have Windows XP (and maybe it still applies if you don't), I have an answer for this, but you probably won't want to read it. I had this same problem when I installed the original version of the game back in March 2006.

After a lot of suggestions from David and forumers that didn't work, someone (I'm sorry, I forget who after all this time) suggested that 1 or more of the Windows XP system files accessed by the game may have gotten corrupted over time (as Windows system files are wont to do).

After a lot of thought, I bit the bullet and re-installed XP and all of its updates to that point.

Voila! The game worked perfectly.

It wasn't a neat or quick solution, but it took care of the problem for me.

I have to reinstall Windows from time to time.  The .dll files tend to get corrupted, and the registry sometimes has problems as well.

Note that Maximum Football will update .dll files with a Microsoft online search, so the computer must be connected to the internet upon installing.

Yeah, it bites, but that's how it is.
