PT Boat TF Creation

Post by rhilliard »

I need some help. As a new Uncommon Valor player I am having problems creating PT boats. I am following the directions in the rules but I am still having problems. Could someone please give me a walk thru how to do it for the campaign game that begins in Jun 42 thru Dec 43. Tks R Hilliard

Pt/Barge

Post by mogami »

Hi, this is also how barges are created.

First check on ship avaiabilty screen to see if there are any in pool
(lower left hand corner)

If you have in pool then load supply on transport in Noumea (Truk for Japanese barge) move transport to base you want PT/barges
dock and start unload. Notice in lower right hand corner of Transport menu PT/Barge option. Barges and PT boats will consume (cost) supply off the transport. Every time you click the create button they will be moved from pool to that base up to amount in pool/supply in tranport TF.

(They have to be in pool to be created on map)

Dont unload

Do not unload your supplies at the port. You need the supply points to create the PTs/barges.

I think they are 50 supply points each for PT boats.

Creating PT's

Post by Gabby »

You just need to have the supply points on the TF. Check the TF status screen, and if Create PT is highlghted, then you can do it.

You can even create the PT TF before you get to a port. Just be carful, because if you do this the PT TF gets the sane Home Port as the Cargo TF. I learned this the hard way when I created the PT's 2 heses from Gili Gili, and didnt discover it till the PT's had gone halfway back to Brisbane. Of course by now they were out of gas and at least a week away from the nearest port with fuel.

PT's can be useful for defending exposed locations cheaply, but be prepeared to lose a lot of them. I once had a PT TF of about 6 boats, iprotecting a harbor which got a visit from a Bombardment TF that included the Yamoto. I lost all 6 PT's but managed to put 1 fish into Yamoto, and the Japs didn't bombard. I guess the Torp did enougy damage for the AI to send "Y" bck to Truk, because I didn't see her again for at least two months.

The Jap AI seems to be very timid after hitting a mine or getting
torped by subs. They will most likely cancel their mission and
head back to base. When a bombardment force hit PM while a
transport force was unloading, it created a surface engagement.
I lost 2 DDs and 2 AKs but the bombardment was greatly dimished
probably because of ammo depleation.
