RE: News from the front
About the subs, I think the main problem is the supply issue I reported some posts ago : at t+1 after their call via action cards, my subs where out of supply and reduced to 30 AP. That's the reason why they have been useless. If Grymme can spot the bug, it will be OK I guess.
Some stats from the Pact point of view on turn 10 :
STF Kills Losses
Truck 29 89
Horses 12 -
Halftrack 7 11
Transporter - 3
Transport Ship 15 1
Staff 89 120
Rifle 1351 1773
SMG 127 101
Engineer 24 35
Paratrooper 39 1
Scout 82 71
Machine Gun 126 186
Mortar 54 77
Anti-tank Inf 106 127
Special Forces 40 -
AT Gun 1 1
Artillery 10 24
Flak 12 17
Rocket Artillery 2 1
Long Range Art. - 14
APC 2 4
Light Tank 16 35
Medium Tank 9 17
Heavy Tank 1 3
Tank Destroyer 3 -
Fighter 21 42
Fighter II 16 -
Strategic Bomber 2 3
Tactical Bomber 15 16
Carrier Air 19 8
Frigate 11 5
Submarine 11 37
Destroyer DDG 1 4
Most of the kills of naval/air units have been scored against USA troops (Japan & Turkey)
The last turn has still been defensive, my troops being pinned and attritionned by heavy air attacks. NATO as the control of the sea in Europe & the remnants of my fleet are stuck in ports. I estimate the NATO air superiority in Europe at about 4:1, and 2:1 at least in the Balkans. I'm loosing more troops that I can produce (and supply). So my forces are weakening in the European theater : I won't be able to attack on the Baltic Front, and my offensive in the Balkans in turning to defense. I'm trying to involve my rserves as a last chance to regain some initiative but... we'll see ^^
@Grymme : I still didn't try Speznatz. I was waiting for an occasion to use them to support an offensive... that I'm still waiting for [:'(]
I know I can paradrop deep in ennemy territory but I don't have any scouting there, that's why I didn't try to paradrop so far. Maybe... well, top secret [:D]

Herode2: i feel your pain. Maybe if we get rid of afghanistan there could be some relief and possibility for a last desperate counterattack a la 1918.
On the contrast the chinese player is having a splendid time. I will save up to Fighter II. (1-2 more turns) after that i will be able to help you a little again.
Some noteworthy events on the chinese turn.
- US strategicly bombs Seul into oblivion. Location is knocked out my some 60 aircraft of different types.
- The remains of the US naval transport detachment around Thailand is captured.
- Chinese Aircraft bombards Taipei with major air & ground losses (some 6 aircraft & 25 INF)
- Borneo is captured and the remains of NATO forces retreat into the woods.
- Partisan forces find Singapore unguarded and captures the city killing an unfilled HQ counter.
- Strong US forces have landed in Bangkok but have no HQ after Singapores capture. Chinese forces manouvre against them for a devastating blow next turn.
- Heavy naval bombardment of Jakarta.
- Recoon discoveres huge naval forces (3 700p fleets) in Japan. they have sortied to badly damage a small chinese naval squadron.
- Celebres capitol captured.
- Major production change.
On the strategic level it seems the US have built up Japan to an impregneable fortress with huge fleet and airforces. The do not seem to sortie out much though. China have almost total controll over the southern part of the region because of better bases, naval aircraft and the proudly rebuilt chinese navy.

NATO Turn 11 Done and sent to PACT.
March comes roaring in like a Lion. On the PACT turn, massive columns of enemy armor and infantry appear advancing toward our lines. The Kremlin has released the strategic reserves. Pact forces advance from Turkey along the Greek coast damaging NATO defenders. The Black Sea Fleet sorties from the straights to add it's guns to the onslaught. West of Bucharest, Heavy armor from the PACT 2nd Central Europe Front deals a crushing blow to NATO's 3rd Armor forcing it to retreat. Meanwhile, in Central Europe the Soviet Guards Tank Army motors along the road to Budepest anhiliting a small NATO infantry blocking force along the way. PACT air power once again takes to the sky in Central and Southern Europe. However, it's area of effectiveness is limited due to NATO Combat Air Patrols and Air Defences.
In response to these sudden threats, NATO warplanes take to the skies in large numbers, hammering advancing columns of PACT infantry and armor. Heaviest hit is the Tank Guards Army which suffers massive disruption to it's advance. NATO ground forces of the 10th Armored and 156th Mechanized counter-attack the disrupted Guards and rout them, causing heavy loss of men and material to the enemy. NATO's 2nd Army also counter-attacks in the Balkans pushing back formations from PACT's 2nd Central Europe Front and doing heavy damage to the enemy.
In the Pacific, things remain grim for NATO. All of Borneo is in Chinese hands and Jakarta must surely be soon to follow. The US Navy is nowhere in sight.

NATO Turn 12 Done and sent to PACT.
Large numbers of PACT forces continue to amass in the Balkans although they are moving cautiously and appear to be fortifying positions east of Sofia. All across Europe the PACT airforce engages in a series of suicidaly brave attacks. NATO warplanes intercept, decimating PACT air power at minimal cost to themselves. Soviet Spetnaz Brigades land outside Munich and Frankfurt but are quickly dispacted by NATO mobile reserves and local garrisons. In Centeral Europe, PACT forces appear to be on the offensive... staging an assault across the Vistula against the 155th Mechanized. The GDR units involved drive the NATO defenders away from the river but sustain very heavy losses in return. NATO counters this move with it's own offensive across the Vistula. After a successfull river assault by elements of the 3rd Army, engineers raise a hasty bridge outside Warsaw and 1st and 3rd Army formations pour across, expending the bridgehead and assualting a number of PACT formations. PACT defenders in Eastern Poland suffer significant casualties, although NATO sustains some losses as well. Other fronts appear relatively quiet for the moment.

RE: News from the front
Baltic front is collapsing under heavy armored NATO pressure.
Balkan front stands still but will probably have to withdraw soon.
Not sure where the bug stand, in AT or in the scenario, but the Vietnamese airforce is unable to recon non Pact land hexes. Ie, my fighters in Saigon can recon Hanoi (dist : 8 hexes) & all sea hexes in a 10 hexes range, but not a single land hex controlled by China or USA (Bangkok, Singapore, etc...)
No activity on other fronts.
I tried several Spetznatz drops this turn with no result : all paradrops were intercepted by ennemy air patrols + units on ground. The fact that NATO now has 100% air control probably makes these units more difficult to use but IMHO, the main problem in all configurations is that Pact has to do blind paradrops since it has no scouting on the targeted areas. Theoretically, spetznatz attacks were prepared by previous spying and recon activity. I don't know if the scenario editor allows to simulate this, though...
In short, as things are showing up, I now expect a fast rout from Pact troops since I don't have any air control, nor sea control, and am overpowered on land in Europe and at best staled otherwise.
Turn sent to Grymme ! [:)]

Herode2, Must say you are really being a good sport about getting hit so hard. Respect to you for it. In the final version of the scenario i think i found that production did favour NATO a little. Also i reduced Berlin from 8k to a 4k city, since whomever got the city got to big of an advantage right at the start.
I am in Crete till sunday. Will do my turn then.

Herode2. Regarding the recon issue. You cannot recon hexes controlled by China because we are not at war. Why you cant recon US hexes i dont know. But you cant move through my hexes to recon them. That could be one explanation. Are you sure you are trying to recon US hexes. Bangkok & Singapore are not US controlled anymore (they have come under the control of the mighty Chinese \>).

NATO Turn 13 Done and sent to PACT.
- Warsaw PACT throws it's local reserves at our bridgehead across the Vistula in Eastern Poland. Hard fighting occurs with casualties on both sides. The NATO bridgeahead is reduced slightly in depth but holds firm. PACT forces appear exhausted by the effort. NATO responds with strong, unopposed air strikes once again. NATO reinforcments pour across the Vistula and attack fatigued and badly disrupted PACT forces causing significant loss. The bridgehead is expanded again and Koenigsburg encircled.
- Some minor activity in the Balkans with Soviet's conducting probing attacks against NATO lines and NATO responds with air and artillery strikes. The forces in this sector are mostly quiet for now, manuvering for better positions and fortifying thier lines. The Balkan front appears like it might devolve into WWI style static warfare.

Chinese turn sent on
It seemes our enemies the US did not adhere to our warning about not attacking ships with aircraft. Losses on our side amounts to 8 ships (minor ones). Losses for the US about 17 aircraft.
Highlights of our turn.
- Jakarta is captured by partisans (another productiontown for the communists)
- An US infantrycorps is slaughtered to the last man trying to put up a defence on the highways to Sydney. Will the US be able to stop the march on Sydney?
- Paratroopers land in the north of Australia destroying airfield there with 4 aircraft.
- Artillery bombardments of Taiwan continue.
- An failed atempt of storming Kabul yeields some 70 INF losses for the PDRC for 24 INF losses for the afghans. Afghans cant replace easily though.
- Help sent to the USSR.
- Starting to move some heavy assets to Afghanistan. Have really been lazy about this.

I am not sure about how much a weakened US hurt the cause of the West but i am making good progress. I will hopefully capture Austrialia, unless something really radical happens. Then i might be in a position to threaten Japan eventually. The question is whether i will do it fast enough to prevent a USSR breakdown in Europe.

The Chinese navy have been revenged.
- In a second battle of New Guinea PDRC carrier air swept down and destroyed several US capitol and smaller ships (atleast 2 capital ships & 3 smaller vessels)
- Chinese paratroopers land outside Sydney
- Chinese armoured units and motorized infantry sweep aside an american infantry corps and stand outside Sydney

Amazing how different all 3 test games seem to be playing out Grymme. I think it's a testement to the design of the scenerio...really any of the powers are viable and any of them can run into problems...depending on the strategies pursued and how things are played out.
RE: News from the front
Well, i agree with you to some extent. Obviously the scenario is balanced enough for an experienced/aggressive player to get the upper hand on an inexperienced/passive player. But the real test would come when two players like George/Seille would meet. I do think that probably no scenario is entirely balanced. But the game is so skillintensive that these minor imbalances are cancelled out so that the best player wins as either side.
I have, as you probably know, made some changes to the scenario since the three testgames started. Most of them are aimed at making the communist powers a little stronger. So we will see.
