Whatever happened to Paradox making a squad leader game? They got the rights to do it at the same time they got the rights to make Diplomacy.

Well if T don't like it then I don't like it! And if Grell don't like it then I don't like it and well,.. I just don't LIKE IT!
I do like the idea of HOI3, heck if it takes three tries to get a game to be good then shame on all of you for buying the first two tries.[;)]
[:D] On the other hand, at least I had a lot of fun with the two first ones. Still have fun with the second, so for what it's worth they got something right. [;)]

It would take real manpower to make a squad leader game that's not going to get laughed at.
Currently Paradox have something like 12 people. Who are rather busy at the moment.

Well, I think we're saying we were unimpressed with the announcment only to find two screenshots!
As for the game itself, I'm looking forward to it, although I hope they haven't dropped the 2D view as they have with their other series of games, as I never did get on with the sprites in the HoI games

Oh dear.
I suspect it "may" be a no sale for me....but it's too early to say for sure.

Most probably I'll buy this game. Just to compare with HoI 2.
maybe you could tell me - can you see the difference between those two provinces:
Here is Paris zoomed in:

And here is when you zoom out:

Here are the whole images:

so that means everyone who bought WitP should be ashamed of themselves since it is being "reworked" for a second release in an attempt to get it right?
careful who you condemn as you may just find it turns out to be yourself!

Given that WitP was an extended version of Uncommon Valour, which was a re-working of Pacific War it could be argued that the upcoming Admiral's Edition is just PacWar 5.0 [;)]

Thanks,
that's make me sure that I'm not an idiot and it's not a zoom in and out issue, as Johan was trying to bamboozled me.

I would say one of the two images is from a mockup map and not the real one...
River inside regions instead than on the borders looks a pretty bad idea (like in TOAW [:'(])
RE: Hearts of Iron 3
Looks like HOI3 is planned for Q3 2009. So it's about 1 year from now.
I have to say Paradox games, according to me, are highly overrated. The infamous ping pong land combat bug totally spoiled EU3 for me. Now am tackling Victoria Revolutions (with VIP mod) and while i admit it's a brilliant way to devise economic, social and political issues in the industrialization period, i find myself at a loss on how bugs such as Pay 100$ loan (tooltip showing loan will be reduced 105$) can make it through final releases. There also seems to be a huge bug with AI management of PoPs who do not split when reaching 40k manpower thus hurting the AI economy very much (strange isn't it, that the AI can field such megalithic armies with a crippled economy? Not at all, it's called AI cheating, something everyone can do when he can't program an average AI player).
The guys at VIP have done a huge job with their mod to improve balance and gameplay. I think i am facing a huge game that was abandoned much sooner than it should have and which, under many aspects, is much better than EU3/NA (last expansion i bought).
I would really buy HOI2 + armageddon, but you see how it goes, Paradox is releasing a new title, after leaving behind severe bugs. It's the common doctrine of most dev houses in the strategy/simulation segment nowadays and it's truly sad.
What about Take Command2 Manassas...arty batteries shooting on each other for 30 minutes and the total kill count being 1 or 2...or AACW, when you siege Richmond and the Army supposed to stop you is in New York. These are gamebreakers.
One might decide to really buy a game only 2 years after its release when the most critical bugs have been solved and after making sure there's an alive modding community on the forums....the problem is that modding has its limits and after 2 years the game has been abandoned. Modders do what they can, but the game remains screwed up.
Too much competition in this segment, too many fragmented sales shared among too many companies...that's why.
It's between hard and impossible to find a game you can play for a year without fighting bugs yourself from morning to night. I share the same vision as Adam with difficulties when picking a new title. I am optimistic for a few Dev houses and very pessimistic with 90% of others i rate between insufficient and mediocre (happy to have discovered a few surprises lately).
You know what...that's all because they try to make things more complex than their manpower and investments can sustain. Why they do not want to merge with one another to release a big title with much increased quality i'll never understand. Perhaps that's because of greed.
With the best of luck wished to Paradox, I'm possibly (not surely) gonna buy HOI3 in 2011 IF the community is still alive by then and modding...and this will include 1 or 2 expansions they choose to release in place of fixing the game without further costs on their users. Objectionable policy but as long as quality is good that's not a problem with me. I'd rather pay 5EU per semester to sustain the developing than have them forced to build a new title and abandon the old one with all the users who bought it.

Because, in the wargames and TBS markets at least, that "big title with much increased quality" might shift 50% more copies than if if didn't have such much increased quality, while three 'broken' games will sell 200% more. It's not about 'greed', its about making a living. Not to mention that it's human nature to be over-ambitious about what you can achieve, and just as well - 'realism' in this market would just result in an endless stream of sequels and clones of games that have sold quite well before, and originality would be a thing of the past. The developers still dream and they still care, thank God.. even if their publishers don't and bank managers can't.
IMHO it's just something, within reason, that we have to live with. Anything that is inherently good tends to hang around long enough to get patched up. If it ever got too bad, people would just stop buying and take up chess... I don't consider your 'gamebreakers' to anything of the sort, for example. Maybe if we were all into shooters and RTS games we wouldn't have to, but they can sell orders of magnitude more copies than any TBS that doesn't have the name "Sid Meier" somewhere in the title.
The one plus point is at least we get variety, more than we have ever had before. It's no good for gamers who want an ACW or Napoleonic game if all that time and effort goes into the 'perfect' WW2 grand strategy game they have no interest in whatsoever.
