Post by andym »

Ok i have an issue i hope can be resolved.I amplaying athe road to caen campaign.Down in the bottom right hand corner are a few hexes surrounded by a river,ie the river cuts off the hexes for wheeled units. The issue is this,on turn 2 yoiu get some reinforcements and like wise turn 3,and guess where they appear?Yes you got it,in the "cut off " hexes,so you end up with a load of tanks and halftracks that cant move! Now is this a glitch or am i missing something glaringly obviously.I have Downloaded and installed the 1.04 updat FYI

Cheers Jason.

No worries.

In the meantime, any chance of posting a screenshot of the problem area?

I may be able to offer a suggestion to fix it.

Is this the DCG Caen and Beyond? or is it a stand alone senario? There are times when I am playing a DCG that the same thiing happens to me, but being a DCG, the map is randomly generated so short of re-writing the basic program, nothing can be done for my particular problem. But if yours is a stand alone senario...the map can be changed, or your reinforcements can be changed to come in at a different location.

Ah, damn random maps and random entry hex locations.

Go DCG's!

You should be able to open your campaign map in the map editor and create a bridge or remove the river.

As Far as I am aware of...there are certain glitches that seem to be prone to DCG's ...to wit: Random map generation and reinforcement entrance hexes...this appears to be rare, but it does happen. This has happened to me on more than one occasion and in different DCG's both in WF, and EF. Frankly, I do not know if this can be "fast fixed". by the player, but I am thinking not. My GUESS would be its a coding error, probably done back in the Talonsoft days that has yet to be addressed. Another such anomoly is the reinforcement glitch. In certain engagements, reinforcements come in "pre-loaded" on their respective transports,,,,usually illegally loaded...I have had 88's loaded on motorcycles....now that was a surprise! And I am guessing that is also going to have to be addressed ....hopefully....1.05???? Maybe?

yeah it happened to me with armor in a swamp. makes for interesting game play. I wonder if there could be a function in those circumstances you can abandon the vehicle and play the remainder with a MG Section?

There's at least one standalone EF scenario with a problem but damned if I can remember which one it is. A bunch of infantry reinforcements arrive loaded on trucks at the top left of the map.  The entry hex is surrounded by marsh/river and there isn't any way to move the units.  Also impossible to unload the infrantry as that causes an overstack warning.

When things like this happen to me I just remember my time in the Army and call it a SNAFU. It's nice that this reality has gotten into the game. [:D]

I've never seen motorcycles with 88's but that is priceless[;)]

Jason/ anyone,
Could you provide more specific instructions on how to fix the problem?

In Windows Explorer, go to the West Front folder.

View --> Details

Sort by Type

Double click on the wfmap.exe.

The map editor will open.

Search for the campaign map file (leadername.map usually)

Open it.

Edit it as necessary.

Save it.

Continue your campaign.

[:D] I tweeked my HQ company for a tiger battalion in the oob's and added an 88 battery, plus transport....my motorcycle came in "pre-loaded" om my engineers sdkfz 251/1....my engineers came in loaded on the 88's transport....and I was wondering where in the Sam Hill my 88's were....it never occured to me they were on the motorcycles....so I proceeded to place my cycles and unloaded them....wow!!!! There's my 88's....lol....they got overrun on the allied turn!!!

This has happened every time my reinforcements come in "pre-loaded". Now I have gotten smarter...i dont run my cycles up to the front line to recon when that happens.

Y'know...it the little giggles like that....that keeps life interesting!
