Battleset Builder Question

Post by RedLancer »

I'm sure that there is a really simple answer to this but I'm stuck. Due to the more suitable map projection I want to use the 'old' GIUK map as opposed to cutting a slice from the world map for my new battle set. How do I do it?

There is a simple answer, just not the one you want. It isn't possible with the current BattleSet builder to do what you want. But you can write your scenario in EC2003 GIUK and tell the user to use a particular database.

You are spot on - not what I wanted to hear. I've made some changes to the database which would affect other games so I really want to use an embedded database.

I thought the battleset builder allows user created maps. Would I be able to create my own map?

Yes, you could create your own map but the latitudes and longitudes would be wrong meaning the bases would be in the wrong place. That isn't insurmountable as you can move them in the scenario editor when crafting the scenario.

The root shortcoming you are facing is that the BS Builder can only make 'square' battleset maps that are 1024 pixels by 1024 pixels. My one thorough attempt at non-square maps failed miserably and I'm not sure when I'll try again.

Still, I've so far been able to get usable GIUK maps out of the BS Builder despite the limitations. They have some extra area (especially up North) but zooming remains more than tolerable.

Tony

I know when I'm beaten and I'll defer to your superior knowledge: as I'm now itching to start writing that first scenario. I'll see what area fits best and will crack on. After all I suppose they're my scenarios and I can write them to suit.
