Dad, are we there yet? Are we there yet?

Post by GaryChildress »

Just wanted to check back in after a sabatical of creating units for Civ III Has there been any more mention anywhere of when AE might be released? No rush. Just curious if I've missed the latest news somewhere.

It's been said a million times but thanks again to all the people who've been continuously involved in the project! It really deserves to be said a million times! [&o][&o][&o]

It would be nice to stop checking these boards every five minutes...it's amazing that I get anything done.

Seriously folks, the USA (and the world) is now in a bad recession; or worse.  And it looks to be getting worse.  Just how much impact will the current global economic situation have on Matrix's ability to finish/produce the game and how many people will be able actually buy the game.  I've been in the Architectural business for over thirty-two years and I have never seen things this bad.  And I don't mean housing.  My cliental consists of muncipal, health care, educational, finanacial, and medium to heavy commercial/industrial entities.  All multi-million dollar projects.  My work is off by over 60% from this time last year.  One of my best clients is Wells Fargo Bank.  We were in the planning stages of over a dozen major projects in California by the close of '07.  That has now been reduced to just three of the smaller projects.  The story is the same here in Oregon.  Architectural and Engineering firms are laying people off because clients are cancelling projects left and right.

All that I'm trying to say is that Matrix may not be able to release this game (or any others) for reasons beyond their control.  Even if they do release it, some may decide to spend that $39 on other things.  When you find yourself making 60% less this year from last, trying to keep your wife in nursing school, pay for your own health care insurance, etc., some sacrifices will need to be made.  Fortunately I have no employees to lay off.  Of course if things don't improve, I may be laying myself off.  Right now in Oregon and California you can't buy a drafting job.

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but business is business.  Just my two cents worth.

Take it from me, I've had plenty of harsh doses of reality lately, having laid off a third of my staff and trying to make my way in this world raising a family in the face of a stagnant salary and rising costs for well...everything.

I come here to escape from it a little.

Anyway, we're digressing from somehting, can't remember what this thread was about...

She obviously has no idea what's about to happen to her world...of course when we're all laid off we'll have plenty of time to do the household projects and play AE.

The great game "Monopoly" was born during the depression as a means to entertain the family.

Hmm, TR Shrum? That name sure rings a bell....wait a second is that the same TR Shrum that was one of the principals behind Fresno Gaming Association? Either it's a huge coincidence, someone thought it would be cute to post with that name here, to see how long it took to make a connection or it is one and the same? Curious!

Instead of "utilities" being free...I just need to make a deal that my carriers get to "pass the Solomons" without penalty....[:D]

Is that a rhetorical question or do you really want an answer?
