AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 07/01/42

== OPERATION MONSOON IV == [8D]

RAF Intelligence had noticed that the IJAAF had reoccupied Mandalay.
After careful consideration, it was determined that a strike against the airfields would
be warranted, such that the strategic initiative could be retained and strikes against industrial centres
in Burma could be protected. Three waves of Allied aircraft were dispatched to neutralize operations from Mandalay.

Overall more than 250 enemy aircraft are destroyed today, in all theatres, for approximately 120 Allied Planes.

Total Losses ~ 3:2 in Favour of Allies

Allied Losses: 799

IJN Losses: 1207

--> A mediocre result as the IJN has a limitless number of planes.

Still however, as our designs improve and pilots gain experience, this tide
of materials may be overcome.

P-40E Warhawk: 41 destroyed --> 51st Fighter Group is all but annihilated above Mandalay. Despite the careful leadership of Maj. McMillan, the less experienced pilots were lured into maneouver combat where the low speed defficiencies of the Warhawk became far too evident.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 07/19/42 -->

/ / = = OPERATION SWORDFISH = = \ \ [:D]

(a subset of Operation Gatekeeper V)

It was noticed by USAAF Pacific Command that a large contingent of enemy shipping had accumulated in the harbor at Gilli Gilli. With such tight spacing, it was clear that any strike would possess a high probability of destroying, or at the very least dissabling a large number of enemy transport vessels. It was therefore decided that in co-ordination with the ressuply effort of Port Moresby, a counter-strike would be launched in an attempt to both reduce the number of potential enemy invasion vessels and to relieve pressure on the incoming supply convoys. The results were predictable as more than twenty enemy vessels were struck with 500LB bombs and MK XII Torpedoes. In addition close to a full battalion of casualties were inflicted opon the garrison forces and fewer than 10% of attacking aircraft were lost despite powerful land-based anti-aircraft opposition.
