Is this a stand alone game or do you need BOA 1?

Is this a stand alone game or do you need BOA 1?

Title says it all. Do you need to won Birth of America to play Birth of America 2. Is there any point in buying the first one if you own the second? Is the first one out of print then?

This is a stand alone game. The original Birth of America is still being sold (at a lower price) because it still an excellent game and one that is a bit faster and simpler to play, which appeals to some players. Birth of America 2 has everything in Birth of America and more, with tons of additional map and unit detail, scenarios and improvements. All of this does make for a game that takes a bit longer to play though.
