[REL] Small Generic Side Icons

Post by NefariousKoel »

So, I liked some of the icon mods but I found myself using the basic side symbols instead of the set that portrays what type of unit is under it (such as infantry/armor/artillery/etc). I found myself looking at the specific unit type's "coin" instead of the unit itself which distracted me from the nice look of things.

Anyway, I wanted something much smaller than the coins, too. So here's what I shuffled around & came up with (large screenshot so you can see the icons better):

The first, generic, set are these small iron cross/soviet star symbols for when I'm down near the dirt and don't want the huge glaring coins in my face, but more focus on the 3D units themselves. The second set are the vanilla coins with unit type in them for easier spotting when zoomed way out. Platoon leaders use the symbol with the red highlight around the outside.

JSGME ready mod.

Thanks.

The German crosses don't stand out as well as the Soviet stars since they're grey & white (as you can see by the one in the background of that screenshot after clicking on it to expand full size).  I thought about adding a little more color but I don't want a cross that looks like a disco.

Have you ever considered incorporating some divisional insignia into the marker graphics, such as that for the 16th Panzer:

I don't know what could be used with the Russians, though, unit insignia would be too bourgeois. [:(]

Not since there's only 1 symbol I can use.

I might go throw a light blue outline around the German crosses to make them stand out a bit more, though.

Have you ever seen the Russian unit insignia for armored units?
