Effects of low to zero supplies on garrison OOBs

Post by Kingfisher »

As I understand it, a garrison will take hits on its combat effectiveness, morale and fatigue levels when supplies drop below the necessary requirements. Will you also see a drop in the actual OOB over time?

In a current scenario I have two major Japanese bases efffectively cut off by LBA. Lae is litterally surrounded with allied bases at Finschafen, Nassau Bay and Buna. It hasn't seen a barge in months, let alone a full supply TF. Aerial recon missions confirms a large garrison is in place. I've kept the place under a steady bombing campaign to help whittle away at whatever supplies it has on hand. Will units begin to drop off the OOB?

Rabaul is in similar shape, expect the garrison is much larger and bombing campaign much more intense. I have about 4 months left in the scenario, and I'm thinking of taking it. Again, can I cut into the garrison's actual strength by starving them?

Historically, Rabaul was cut off in much the same way and attacked on a regular basis by LBA's. It however, stayed uncaptured until the end of the war ( deliberate decision by the Allies- due to it's strength).
Whilst I cannot directly answer your question with regard to the game rules, I would be suprised if you can succeed in starving it out.
Also, assaulting it, with likely heavy losses ( which may not be worth the eventual gain) is a dangerous option.

The only reason I'm even contemplating it is out of boredom. The game had been decided long ago and I'm left with either air raids or capturing bases to pass the time.

Both Noumea and Brisbane is stocked to the gills with combat troops, so I figure in the 4 months I have left I can land a couple of Corps and give it a go.

Good luck to you.
Keep an eye on those victory point levels though, in case it goes badly.
