somebody mentioned earlier they would like cc2 bridge to far, well that and ccv invasion normandy are also up for a facelife. WaR will be the best version ever, simply because it has new features we only dreamed of 8 years ago. not as many as it could, but cc2/5 and if cc6 come we need something new...

and like kreig said, its the most heart pumping game i ever played(CoD4 is pulse pumping, but i find it infuriating at times on max hard settings i get mad as hell, where a bad game of ccv H2H had me up for hours thinking of what i did wrong...thought on it for days, even years later...

God what I wouldn't give for some real AI in computers. Unfortunately I don't know of a game in existence with half decent AI other than some of the Chess games out on the market right now. [:(]

$60 will get you Conquest of the Aegean or it's predecessor Highway to the Reich.

They're both considered to have one of the best AI's in the business so if you're into operational level combat and want to see a real AI in action in a Market-Garden setting ...

Check out the AAR's in PDF format right here :

That's interesting. It makes me wonder. Why there's no warning about barely-functional AI on CC product information? I'm pretty sure that problems with attack, vehicle pathing, etc. is something that a customer should know.

Also, why CCMTs product description writes about
  • Accurate and realistic modern equipment modeling
  • Accurately depicting modern tactical warfare and it’s challenges
when the CC engine doesn't even have functionality to accurately model modern equipment - different types of armour, reactive armour, like top-attack and tandem warhead missiles, helicopters, AA weapons, etc. ?
Also, appearently, it's random modelling, not accurate modelling.

Wildflecken history:
http://www.rhoener-reservisten.de/wta/

At Langendiebach they tested various Prototypes in gliding tryouts. Among them the Horton 3.

I've seen the Wildflecken page before. At the time, we had no idea our company barracks was headquarters for a waffen SS unit. The German troops that were also stationed there simply said it had been a military training area for decades.

The two hills on the backside of Wildflecken, which would qualify as Miltary crests since they had a commanding view of the surrounding area, were littered with spent shell casings from Allied weapons. Since the peace time military is meticulous about policing up brass, we wondered what happened there that would leave so much expended and live ordanance lying around.

Langendiebach was heavily bombed. Bomb craters that were invisable from the ground were plainly visable on approach and take off from the single runway. There had to be something there worth all that effort. That airfield is now the property of the German government. Never heard anything about anyone unsealing the underground facilities that are known to be there.

Now that you're a Baron and all, maybe you could march in there and get some of your Royal servants to dig it out.[;)]

I got dibs on any He-219 Uhu.

At the time I visited Hammelburg, I had never heard that the Kasserne there was a former PW camp, I'm still wondering what happened on the hill at Wildflecken where we found tons of discarded military equipment.
I lived in Hammelburg for about 30 years.

Because it isn't 'barely-functional', and there are no real-time strategy games (take that in the broadest sense) that don't have those exact same problems in some way or another. For most purchasers, certainly of the original CC games if not the re-releases, it is adequate and will prove challenging in a lot of scenarios. For a 'wargamer' audience, though, it is not.. and that's what MP is for.

Really? I have played many RTS games and none of them had AI that had tendency to camp in deployment zone even when all the objectives are on player's side of a map.

I mean barely functional not as not using proper tactics, etc. but barely functional as in sitting half an our waiting for enemy forces to come and get shot and discovering that enemy tanks are going in circles on the other side of the map and enemy infantry is crawling around aimlessly.

I must have played a different CC as Perturabo in all those years since 1996 [;)]

While things you describe happen once in a while I think you are highly exegerating. CC would not have and have had such a huge fanbase if all that would apply. Let alone it would not have seen 7 releases and gazillions of excellent mods since 1996.

It happens pretty often (like in almost always) on big maps. Not to mention the vehicle pathing in CCV...

As for popularity - gamers are known for ridiculous tolerance for developer's mistakes and general lack of quality. After all, it's an addiction.

IIRC there was a patch that improved the AI, perhaps he's only playing the unpatched version ?
History began July 4th, 1776. Anything before that was a mistake.

Two things I never liked about the series was one it was rts and two the units were just too dam small. I much prefer the Combat Mission and SPW@W take on WW2 gaming. They are both turn based and have a better challenging level of difficulty choices though the AI is lame in all of these series CC, CM and SPWAW. At least I can see my units well in CM and SPWAW. Sorry, but, I just never got excited about the CC series.

H2H is where CC series really shines....its just magic to play a grand campaign night after night with a fellow of similar capability, even when loosing you learn, and enjoy....
this is the reason for my 11 year addiction...

To me CC1 was a revolution, I really liked the simulation aspect and that I had no 100% control over my units. I was so blown away by it that I wrote like 4 editors for the game and almost ended up working for Atomic Games. Actually the CC2 and onwards battle maker editor was done based on my scenario editor for CC1, was told by Atomic Games developer. Somehow to me all the later versions of CC felt more like WW2 RTS than a serious wargame simulator. I still remember the day I bought CC1 based on the demo I got off the internet. I still love CC1 to this day and play it once in a while. After some communication with Atomic Games I became one of their testers and was involved in testing from CC2 to I believe CC4. At which point I left because I felt that my input didn't matter much...and by CC4 pretty much all the people I knew at Atomic Games were gone.

Anyways I'm looking forward getting Wacht am Rhein, more improved version of CC4!

There were mods that increased the squads to nine men. The extra guys simply stumbled around until they got killed.

I gave up on Combat Mission because I couldn't even find my own men. All the the 3-D camera angles and crap made it impossible to manage my teams in real time. You don't have to read a hundred pages of instructions to know how to play CC. It's a simple interface thsat allows you to find and manage your squads and vehicles instantly.

The single most significant improvement in any future versions would be to allow advancing units to enter anywhere on appropriate side of the map, instead of confining them to a little basket ball court sized beam in zone. This would force the defender to deploy his forces to defend the whole map instead of ringing the deployment zone with AT and machine guns and blazing away.

Given how while beta testing CCMT, you thought that it was the greatest thing you had played, I have to wonder where all of your hatred now comes from? Is it from not being included as a tester for WAR?

If you are judging gameplay on WAR from CCMT or even the stolen beta that you were playing a few months ago, then you really have no idea how WAR actually plays now.
If it does not have a gun, it cannot be fun.

If Matrix makes such crappy games then why continue to buy them or even hang out on the Matrix boards? Why not simply go to another gaming company that makes better games? Even if you are an addict, then what is stopping you from going to a dealer with a better product? Why stick with a dealer who is giving you inferior crack or something? Go with the dealer who gives the better quality addiction. [&:]

Is this still the same series as this game?

Speaking of CC2 A Bridge Too Far, it would be really cool to have the CCIV/V engine incorporated into Operation Market Garden. XXX Corps fighting it's way up a strategic map to releive 1st Airborne at the far end. [8D]

Nomada Firefox's A Bridge Too Far mod. The operation Market Garden of CC2 transposed to CC5. Defend Arnhem and the bridges as Gerry or take part of the biggest airborne operation of the time under the command of Monty! Current version, 1.02

There's also a CC5: Operation Market Garden mod in the works by Buck_Compton.
