Is there a demo?

Commander – Napoleon at War is the second in a series of high level turn based strategy games. It spans the Napoleonic Wars from 1805 to 1815, allowing players to control France or the Coalitions against it through the entire period or in shorter scenarios. Easy to learn, with fun and addictive gameplay, this is a Napoleonic wargame in the style of the old "Panzer General".

Is there a demo?

Post by Doobious »

I would like to try the game on my system before I buy. Concerned about screen resolution issues.

Thanks!

I hear the screen resolution scales nicely. At least that is what another poster said in his impressions thread (not sure if that was here or on the wargamer.com).

There's a demo for CEAW here, which uses the same resolution and engine:

I downloaded the demo of CEAW and tried it out.

Fullscreen on my monitor (Acer 24" LCD @ 1920X1200 native resolution) was a pixilated mess.  The blur was bound to give me a headache if viewed for any length of time.

So I switched it out of fullscreen mode to give it a try.  Screen shot attached.

It doesn't look bad but I am disappointed that the window is not movable or able to be resized.  It is running in Java after all, and it should be able to be resized and relocated without much programming effort, one would think.

Also, is there really no UNDO button in this game? [X(]

None the less, I am somewhat disappointed and still on the fence about making my purchase.

Thanks for your help.

Hm, CEAW fullscreen (and CNAW) look fine on my 1680x1050, but I may be less picky. Have you tried alternate scaling options in your display drivers.

If you feel that the full screen is not satisactory and rather want to play windowed mode why not set a lower resolution such as 1440x900 for example?

From several displays, some wide some non wide and with windowed or full screen I do not myself notice any quality difference.

It was me here [;)]

I concur with Erik, I play full screen at 1600 x 1200 on a 20" LCD and the graphics are smooth as silk.
