Tutorial for outputting stats to Excel/HTML

Post by garysorrell »

After a discussion thats been ongoing about stat output, I figured I would make a tutorial for a way that Tullius suggested. It doesnt take long and honestly, its the easiest way I have seen so far. The result is better than what the game puts out.
This is obviously geared towards those who havent tried this yet. If you have already done this, then shame on you for not sharing your knowledge [:)]
***This seems to work best with Opera or Internet Explorer. Copying from Firefox to the
excel spreadsheet doesnt paste properly. I dont have Netscape, so I cant comment on that**

Great. But i am surprised that it is really so easy. It works using Open Office, too. But after copy the table you have to use the command Strg + Shift + V and then use html. Strg + V copies only a text without any format. The example shows Punt Return Stats (without further editing).

This works real well - I'm going to try to modify it slightly to populate my SQL queries nice and easily for my CFL and CIS leagues.  If I can eventually write some nice macros I would like to post that out and maybe we can get some mileage out of it.

CIS I have my schedules and standings pages pretty much out, just need to get the player pages and team pages up.

What does the game put out? I am new to this forum and taking a serious look at this game for purchase. I'd prefer not to have to add on a whole lot of 3rd party apps. What stats are packaged with the game?

Wince, welcome to the forum.

With games like Maximum Football, FBPro, and even Madden, third party programs can make or break how good the game is as a simulation.  It would be great to have more features built in to the game, but community developers can go a long way in filling the gaps left behind.

Here is an example putout of the game. The MFL is run by an user of the game and he uses the inbuild export function to produce a htmp page.

Thanks for the tutorial, Gary. Wish the game did this for us or some sort of utility.

Yeah, I would like to see an in-game output. But, this really is good enough for me. I will use the above process at the end of each season and save a spreadsheet of stats by season and compiled. Im obsessive that way.

I can remember a shelf of 3-ring binders full of old printouts of stuff from leagues I used to run in older games like FootballPro and even older. I like to have a history of my leagues. It's a hobby to me, so why not make it as complete as I can.

So.....It looks like the game records more stats than it shows in in the game recap screen.

In that case I take back some of my complaints in regards to lack of statistics :)

Also, what's the PKD defensive stat?  Passes defended (or Passes Knocked Down?)

Hmmm.....I don't get why the "current game stats" don't show all these stats if the game records them.  It doesn't seem like it would be something difficult to implement.

Is there any way to generate a stat report for a "quick play" game?

No, quick games are simply "one night stands" - nice but quickly forgotten.

Ok.  I'm a bit relieved to see that the game records more stats for league games.  I was worried it was limited to what you see for a quick game.
