Help installing CHS on a Vista Machine Please
Finally decided to get a laptop for when I travel and I have 32 bit vista installed. I downloaded all the files, loaded WIPT in 2 separate installations, put all the files in the right place and followed the directions to the letter. When I try and load mod select I cannot even read the message that gets put up it dissappears so fast I cannot read it. I also can't make a backup of the map files. I get the menu but when I hit the b key nothing happens? Anyone have any ideas as I am going on a trip next week and I really want my WIPT fix. [&o]
Thanks

If you have two separate installs, there's no need for ModSelect.

maybe I am missing something simple, but you have to use mod select once to get the maps to load right?

Not as far as I know. If you have two installs, just plunk the CHS map into one of them, and the proper pwhex file into the main folder.
That's how I did it back in the day. Never used mod select at all.

I have a 64 bit machine and a 32 bit one running vista. The 64 bit doesn't like to run the modselect utility. What I did is a full regular game install on the 64 bit machine; then copied the entire game setup (including all CHS stuff - basically my entire WITP folder) from my 32 bit machine to a flash drive and copied over my vanilla game installation on the 64 bit machine. Voila!
Ken, drop me an email if I can help you with it.

I use JonesSoft Generic Mod Enabler to swap CHS and other map and art files in a single installation.
As can be seen below, a single click will install/uninstall the CHS files, the next will install/uninstall the Andrew Brown maps and there is no need to muck around with the clunky MSDOS ModSelect utility.
Setting it up is easy. Just create a folder called 'MODS' in the WITP folder, inside that create another folder called the mod title and then just copy in all the files you want to install as part of the mod (remembering to recreate the game directory structure inside the mod folder - ie the 'Art' folder etc). Run the program and click on the right arrow button to install. As simple as that.

Edit:
Ohh, nice feature. Bad luck Vista users!![/size]
Mod Enabler backs up all the old files for you so you can uninstall and revert to stock at any time.
As you can see below, apart from CHS and map files I have some art mods installed as well. The best example is Carthartes' plane side art that I just swap in at the appropriate date.
Judging from quote above, I would suspect (but have not tested) that this will run under Vista. (I'm another holdout [:)]).

- Now supports importing of mods through drag and drop from Windows Explorer, Desktop etc (not supported under Microsoft Vista)

Andrew's ModSelect works exactly as Generic Mod Enabler above (but uses MSDOS scripts). If you want to be able to uninstall the maps, you need to install them using ModSelect so it knows where all the files are.
However, as T says, if you have two installations you don't need to uninstall anything so therefor you don't need ModSelect (or Generic Mod Enabler for that matter..).
You simply manually copy the maps and CHS files into the appropriate folders in one of the WITP installations which becomes your permanent CHS game.
Cheers,
Reg.

RE: Help installing CHS on a Vista Machine Please
I am aware that there are problems with ModSelect and Vista, but I don't have a copy of Vista (and hope to remain that way for as long as possible) so I can't really help. The only advice I can give is the same as Terminus - create a second copy of the program and make it a CHS version by putting the map files into the Art folder and the pwhex.dat file into the main folder.

This has worked for me for the last year. I have a stock installation, and a CHS installation. Can't remember the last time I fired up the stock installation. [:D]

I use this method as well. Rename your main game folder so that you can differentiate the versions from each other.
For example:
C:\Matrix Games\WiTP
&
C:\Matrix Games\WiTP_CHS

No, but you do have to individually move each file to the right places. It has been over a year since I did it so I don't remember what "the right places" are but as I remember it was pretty obvious. Now the reason it took me a couple of tries is that my mind faded away about half way through the process and I missed moving a file. Eventually it did work though
Just an additional Vista hint, be absolutely certain that you install the game in the default location (root directory). The game files get a little strange if you install it someplace dumb like Program Files [8|]

Are you serious? Or Not? (I can't tell with you, sometimes.
My machine runs WiTP... and it's Vista.
If my Vista machine runs WiTP, won't it run AE?

Of course, this all pre-supposes that AE even exists...

RE: Help installing CHS on a Vista Machine Please
Having 'downgraded' to a Vista machine I had to reinstall. Initially it didn't works and have found out since never to install games in the Program Folder.
I installed stock to C:\witp then copied everything to a new folder called c:\witp2 (could be anyname). I then manually installed all CHS files to WitP2 following the instructions supplied. I think somewhere in the Web pages for CHS it does say the Modselect doesn't work with vista.
Note since then I've got a third install testing a scenario based on CHS but with some new graphics. All I did was copy the Witp2 folder and install the new graphics and scenario.
