How do I build more ADs?

These little guys are so useful, but you can't convert ships to them as you can to other auxiliaries as far as I can tell. Is there a way to build more?

You need a 5000 capacity AK disbanded in your main port (San Fran). If you click on a disbanded ship of the right size then you'll get an option to convert it to one of the auxiliary types.

EDIT: Corrected after Mike pointed out the Japanese can't do this [:)]

Unless you're talking about the Japanese.  You can't convert Japanese ships to ADs.  You're stuck with what you start with.

AD's allow Destroyers to reload torpedoes when at a port not normally big enough to allow it, and they assist with repairs to DD's, similar to AR's.

The former being far more useful (at least to the Japanese) than the latter.

you can not just replenish torps for DDs but also for CLs and CAs which is most often very comfortable. You only have two or three ADs as the Japanese though so be careful using them too near at the frontline.
