Course it was a real one! And a film star to boot (used in the movie Tora! Tora! Tora!). Great fun taking it over the Channel with my daughter and looking for the odd Froggie boat far below and then testing out the dive-bomb capabilities, unfortunately we had to stop (people started to complain, spoilsports! :() and then along came 9/11.

I'd love to do a PBEM against a human opponent but never tried it, also I'm not sure I'd have the time to do it on a regular basis :(

wow, lucky one.[;)]

i know from the good old VAL, that sometimes in was used as a fighter over china because of its fantastic maneuverabiliby....and you flow this baby!

its great that you still have a huge number of flyable WW2 planes in the states. if someone tries the same here in germany with FW-190 or ME-109, then he will be insulted as a nazi or so.

i have "TORA TORA TORA" on DVD and it is a 1000% better movie then this "modern" version with the kiddie ben affleck.

about the PBEM game:

UV is much faster then WITP. you can do a turn in few minutes and surely you can find an opponent who has no problem with 1-2 turns/day.

do it and you can command 100 VALs instead of flying one.[;)]

Yes, I do consider myself lucky. I've flown a few WWII planes in my time (being former RAF I guess that's helped) of which the Val is one of my favourite (also flown the F4U, F8, Argentinian He111 and somehow managed to squeeze my way into a Spanish Me109). Also I am a member of the 'Old Flying Machine' company based up in Duxford, you never can be quite sure what is going to drop in for some servicing/maintenance.

Agreed that I prefer Tora Tora Tora over Pearl Harbour any day of the week! My only regret is that I never got to see the former on the big screen :(

OK I shall think about the PBEM but I need to go and look up the rules/requirements on how to do it first as to be honest I've never ever tried it before :(
