Adding Bases to Scenario for AI?

Post by Dereck »

Is there any way to add the bases from Andrew Brown's maps into the scenario editor so the AI will know about them?

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use the Scenario Editor other than setting the length of the game and the name of the scenario.

Thanks

If you are using the stock editor you need to use the database editor.

You can add bases with both the stock database editor and WitpEditor. Go to "Locations" in both editors.

From my experience it is hit or miss if the AI will go after a base added the game. You may want to try using the Modules in the Scenario Editor for this.

In C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific\Manuals I have an editor manual which helped out a lot. I don't recall downloading it so I guess it came with the original game or an update.

R8J is correct, I have created a number of new bases for inland Australia to provide a better network of airbases, maybe I'll do the same for the USA.

I also created some coastal bases in Australia, Millingimbi & Gove, which were active airfields, I am hoping the AI doesnt attack them until the Allies get a chance to build them up. IRL they were "secret" for a long time.

The basic thing to understand is that a base is defined by the location file. IF you have a slot in the right range - you are restricted and cannot use slots for HQ, land units, etc as bases - AND IF the pwhex file has the hex coded properly - you can create a base that will work.

Rules:

1) If you want to create a port it must be a coastal hex or an ocean hex (the "port" should in that case be defined as an "atol" in pwhex).

2) If you just want to create an airfield (no port) - the hex must be a coastal or land hex.

3) If the base needs naval access - there must be at least one "both" or "ocean" hex side leading to another hex.

Failure to observe these rules may have the base not appear or it may not work - depending on the specific details.

The base will appear as a flag symbol defined by the nation of the COMMAND to which you assign the base. You can add bases at will - until you run out of slots.
