Turn 5
What can you say about turn 5? Well, how about........
An F4U1D plotted last turn arrived and apparently managed to pop the crew in that monstrous, turreted Coastal Gun. The only Ranger squad not pinned or routed by that monster moved in and proceeded to slaughter the shaken, exposed crew.
(incidentally, the icon and screen description for the coastal gun are gone! Why would that be? Where'd they go?)
"Heh-ro, Jo. So nice to see yuuu. I have somt'ing fo' yuuu. It's a pletty pleasant. You rike?"
The ceramic jar was attractive, black laquer with bamboo flowers all about it. The sputtering fuse left no doubt as to it's purpose though. Pvt Mellon took on right next to his leg and it managed to shred him from crotch to heel.
What squad leader Cpl Lance didn't see, was the Type 2 Ka-mi taking a bead on his squad with a 37mm cannon!
At that moment, a Sherman DD flanked the Ka-mi, forcing the Jap tank to face the new threat. A 37mm round bounced off the hull of the Sherman as she let loose her 75mm round right into the turret of the Ka-mi!
Return fire from the squad killed the Geisha almost instantly and scattered a couple of dozen peasants hiding throughout the forest.
A outrageously brave Flame tank crew sideled in front of that big, bloody coastal gun in the southern center and blasted it with HE and flameguns. She then made a hasty retreat out of the gun's fire area. There was no discernible effect, but were hoping that the flames will continue to suppress the crew.
I discovered that my Rifle squads can't scale cliff hexes, so the southeastern landing is slow going. It appears that the clear paths leading to the top of Acorn Hill are heavily mined. Two men dead.
One of the LVT-mounted Rangers has joined up with that ill-fated platoon, tho'.
A hidden coastal gun and a hidden cave continue to harass my efforts to make an LVT landing crossing Chiba Bay. We're almost there, and I think I'm out of range from the coastal gun. Whew! They did manage to immobilize an LVT Flame in the bay. I'm really gonna miss that.
Naval guns are popping smoke rounds all over Chiba Bay's coastline.
Second wave is on the beach and moving inland at the fourth beachhead. The third wave will be dry in two to three turns.
Man! That's a lot of armymen. Thanks Jess!!
Japanese militia are just as nasty as SO Conscripts. You hit them once and they retreat. You chase them, hit them again, and they retreat. Ad nauseum.
I'm really quite concerned that we just don't have enough bullets. And, if I'd been planning this invasion, I'd have a bundle of flamethrower teams attached to each platoon. Well, maybe not the Rangers. But everybody else!
Now we hear from our beleaguered Airborne and valiant Marine teammate.

Turn 5
The airborne group in "The Middle" is surrounded, cut off, and under heavy attack by Japanese Regulars and SNLF troops. We have managed to keep them at range with mortar fire and naval gunnery so far, but fear they are massing for a final Banzai attack. The surrounding hills are dotted with burning vehicles, but more have been sighted, including the new medium tanks mounting 75mm guns. A 57mm ATG kills a Type 97 and Type 91 advancing down the north road.
On the beaches, Marines are advancing to cover under the cliffs facing the sea. Engineers flank a bunker and take fire from a covering machine gun nest. We move 2 Shermans to point blank range and bounce shell after shell off of the thick log emplacements.

The Spirit now has almost 30 kills, but she has been sighted.
Most of the fighting now is being done with spears, and very little else. Against tanks and the well armed American infantry, this produces many heroes, but not many dead Americans.
We will fight to the last! BANZAI!!

Turn 6
Army Rangers make substantial contact with the Japanese Militia west of Acorn Hill. It is a bloody encounter, for the Japanese.
70 Jap casualties in fire exchanges, and another Type 2 Ka-mi got slagged by a Sherman DD. A flame tank managed to get two squads and a crew in the same hex. Gotta love flamethrowers. Militia running everywhere.
The Rifle platoon scaling Acorn Hill met the crew from that peak's destroyed coastal gun and shot them back up their hill. We press on.
LSTs, LCGs and FR Gunboats swarmed into Chiba Bay and blew up a cave with massed AA fire. Their next target is Spirit of the Samurai .
You will pay, yellow-skinned scum!
US Army second wave has landed and is starting to move inland. The third wave's landing is imminent. Those extra Rifle squads are gonna be really helpful, I predict.
"We'll use your bamboo to pick our teeth and make furniture! Hah"

Bitter fighting in "The Middle". Our perimeter is slowly being pushed back and the ATG position on the east road is overrun. The order is given to button up as naval gunfire is called down directly in front of our positions.
We steel ourselves to fight to the last man and the last bullet, as reports that Japanese civilians are pouring out of the rocks and forests, impaling wounded troopers with sharpened bamboo spears.
On the beaches, Marine Assault squads flame the MG bunker that was holding up the advance. Fire from M4's and gunboats destroy 2 Type3 KiChi amphibious tanks.

Mr. Subliminal Message
We are beginning to despair! Our valiant militia (worthless crap) fight hard (run or die), but cannot defeat the enemy (they have guns). Our other troop (very few) watch the militia (useless beyond belief) fall back (rout), and grip their weapons (only guns on island) tightly.
Joe (American giants)! Run home (for the love of God)! You will die (eventually of old age)!
The Spirit of the Samurai has been noticed now (oh, crap). They will attack her soon (swarm over it)! She will resist to the last (get lucky to get off a shot).
Our elite tanks (upside down bathtubs on bikes) even now engage (explode on sight) the American tanks (huge armored monsters), and will surely defeat them (cause them to run out of ammo)!
Goblin- A Goblin screams BANZAI!! (we're all going to die)
