What about historical accuracy?

Post by simovitch »

Having never played the CC series I know very little about it, but this title has sparked my interest.

I'm suprised no prospective buyers have inquired about which scenarios are offered... is it because the scenarios are more "generic" than based on actual OOB's and historically accurate situations?

Am I going to see the age-old Bulge Faux Paux's like Pz VIb's at Rocherath or Pz VIe's as common as Pz IV's? I have heard that the equipment is modelled OK, I'm more concerned about the research put into the scenarios.

Thanks in advance.

A lot of research was put into outfitting the forcepools of each battlegroup, and as much as possible, you will find BGs fighting in the areas they were actually located. Battles, and Ops were created to try and recreate 'historical matchups' as best we could with the included BGs.
If it does not have a gun, it cannot be fun.

Since you create scenarios for Panther Games and I know you are a history buff, the stock CC games were all in a more or less "relaxed" historical scenario situation. Speaking of this it does not mean it is totally ahistorical, but certainly not 100% historical to please a hardcore grog. Based on the "Battlegroup" system CC used from IV onwards the research is pretty well.

You can actually built your own "Battlegroups" based on the availability of units in the force pool. You can give the subgroups of a Battlegroup custom names too. For that extra piece of accuracy.

Units and equipment is researched well. Maps too. Extremely good in many aspects actually.

Give it a try, you won't be dissapointed (unless you totally hate RTS games), especially since your memories if the villages, towns and landscape is pretty fresh ;)

(btw, was great putting a face to the name at Bruxelles airport ;) )

Thanks Marc, it was likewise a pleasure. Between what you, Neil N, and Andries have told me I think I have an idea of what to expect. It looks like a good game with plenty of atmosphere - the only thing that would keep me from a purchase is Arjuna's whip - there's lots more to do to get BFTB out in a timely manner.[:D]

Like Command Ops (I better get used to calling BFTB that) the RTS aspect is what is what is holding my interest here.

Cheers
