Air base size

Post by Ratz »

Could someone list the restrictions on air groups based on air field size?

I was wondering why my bombers on Guadalcanal were not attacking naval targets until I found mention that the air base has to be 2 or greater. Just wondering what other surprises I am in for. Thanks in advance for any help.

air base size 1 = no offensive operations. (size 1 is good basically for patrol and CAP)

air base size 2 = full 1E tactical bomber capability and offensive fighter ops. (sweeps)

air base size 3 = 2E bombers can attack with extended loads only. no restrictions on 1E tactical bombers.

air base size 4+ = full 2E capability. 4E can attack with extended loads only

air base size 7+ B-29's can operate at full capacity.

Something I learned recently was that you can perform LRCAP missions from level 1 airfields.

air base size 5+ = most 4E bombers (B-17s, B-24s) operate at full capability.

i think base size required for nonrestricted operations is based on plane Load capacity/2000 ?

From the manual section 9.4 Airfields
"Level bombers require an airfield equal to size 4 + (bomb load/6500) rounded down. So a B29 requires a size 7 airfield to avoid penalties."
