Launch capability of damaged carrier

Post by Kingfisher »

At what point does sys damage + reduced speed preclude a carrier from conducting flight ops?

Sys damage 50+%

Speed is not a factor.

Also System Damage + Flotation damage 50+% can also prohibit a carrier from conducting flight ops unless in a base with an airfield size 1 or bigger where you can transfer any operational planes. Note also that a carrier with system &/or floatation damage prohibiting it from conducting flight ops can still repair/maintain some aircraft but at a reduced rate

Isn't a combination of wind + carrier's speed a requirement for launching A/C?

Not in UV.

I think the exact rule is if sys PLUS float damage 50+ then the carrier cannot launch.

Therefore a CV with 49 sys and 0 float damage can fly strikes, but a CV with 25 sys and 25 float damage cannot.

I think the factor speed is abstractly incorporated in the SYS and Float damage as these values influence the speed of each vessel.

It is in CaW and maybe it will -- or rather should -- be in CF!

Could planes launch with no wind and no speed from a world war 2 aircraft carrier?

Perhaps on short range CAP missions from an empty deck, but this is just a guess.
I don't think a strike package could do it.

Good question. A B25 could launch with a certain amount of bomb load and an optimized weight. I guess maximum speed and high winds were necessary for this maneuver. What was necessary for a SBD with reduced load?
