Ah! Looks like it was the scenario. I thought it just over-wrote the stock game, but no. Now looks fine and with all the extras like enhanced flak etc, a massive step forward.

Goodbye stock WitP and thanks to all concerned at RHS for your dedication and hard work.

One thing I noticed though, not that it has any impact on the game, is that cities are identified with countries, at least one of which did not yet exist, like Pakistan. Tiny point but just thought I'd mention it.

The problem is the city in question. There are two major cities in British South Asia called Hyderabad. How to tell them apart?
One is Hyderabad India, the other Hyderabad Pakistan. It was a player aid - since players know about Pakistan.

In general RHS uses period names for places and other things - and changed many names on the stock or CHS map. Some were later also changed in CHS. For example - there was no Kitakyushu in that era - and the city is Fukuoka in RHS - and also CHS after a certain date.
Still Kitakyushu in stock though. Someone looked at a map - and not a period map either.

You are going to find hundreds or thousands of little details imbedded in the data. There are civil airlines working for the military - PAN Ams unit in India - its USAAF and USN flying boat detachments too - the Empire flying boats of BOAC and the Australian airline too - the remarkable airline called Mansyu - the strange Tawianese commando unit - lots and lots of things - mostly suggested by the forum. You get to pick which ships are in the game - and the focus of initial operations - by picking the scenario. BBO is the war as both sides long planned it - CVO the war as it was fought - EOS the war as the Allies imagined it was (with longer term Japanese planning). Only in the latter do you get to see Mike (Me-109s) or Ju-88s - both of which were assigned code names because they were thought to be in service in Japan - and technically the Mike WAS in service - just not in production. This lets you try out different things. In BBO there is a focus on mass production of medium range subs on both sides - and USN DEs have their design horsepower (twice as much = more speed) - but you only get half as many. They also get the designed guns (5 inch) instead of the installed guns (3 inch) in many cases. Capital ships come in various flavors - so you can pick which to try for the next game - is it wiser to have more CVLs or CLs - that sort of thing.

Just for laughs, I've put the Ju88 into my private mod, where it's equipping the IJN's land-based dive bomber units. It's proving to be quite the ship killer around the Philippines and the Malay Peninsula with its 4x500kg AP bombs, being responsible for most of the Allied ship losses to date (late January 1942), including HMS Repulse.
DON´T PANIC - IT´S ALL JUST ONES AND ZEROES!

Sid,
In the mods designed for play against the AI, I would suggest that your modify the targets for KB to be port only for most of the Kates off of Hawaii. As it is currently laid out, KB goes after the ships at Pearl and the port gets very little damage done to it or the BBs on turn 1.

It is a difficult thing to decide how to set the planes. Worse if the human player knows what I have done. I found in testing that - if the Kates hit the port - and the Allies simply put all the ships into TFs which are docked - they escaped the torpedoes and 800 kg bombs entirely.

Another problem is - what if the human player forms up into surface action groups and tries to hunt KB with them? If ship killers are not set - they will get through - probably - and that is not really good either.

Since I have pretty much given up on AI anyway - after excessive time devoted to trying to make scenarios for it - I am not inclined to go back. AI is really just a training aid. It never does Allies even at the horrible level it does the Japanese. And it cannot work after Aug 1944.
This means it is not very good at all - except to train players before they risk being embarassed by human players.

The cure for AI is a real AI program.

If you run a lot of tests and come up with a good mission mix - I can enter the data. It is figuring out what it should be that is time consuming. More or less whatever we set - the human player can compensate and optimize his situation - if he figures it out. Probably a mix of missions is best - but that results in weaker attack outcomes than extreme mission allocation does.
