Save Game Capability

Post by Anendrue »

What save game capabilities will we have?

Can we save at any point?
Can we only save at the beginning or end of a phase or turn?
Can we save before or after combat?

Can we have multiple saved games?
Can we fork a save game into different branches to explore what ifs?

How will saves function in a multiplayer environment to prevent cheating and obtaining "best results"?

In other words what are the limitations and boundaries of saving games?

You can save at most places in the game, but not in the midst of a combat 'event'. I have left this more or less the way it was in CWIF, though I have added the ability to save during set up. I expect to review this in detail at some point before MWIF product 1 release, if for no other reason than to include it in the documentation.

I am not worrying about players cheating against the computer. How a player uses the game is up to him (once Matrix has received his money).

Playing over the internet, all players will be informed about die rolls when they happen. Hence trying for a reroll by restoring a saved game would require the full cooperation of all players.

There are automatic saves at the end of each 'phase' - assuming you turn that feature on. Those are kept separately for the Aixs and Allied sides so you can go back pretty far in an impulse, or go back to a previous end-of-turn phase. Making additional personal saves is fine and only limited by your disk space.

As for cheating under PBEM, I have discussed that a half a dozen times already. If you can't find a previous post on the topic, maybe someone else can help you find it.
